P-24-1 HERE AND THERE WITH ARLEE Greetings and __ salutations! Isn't it wonderful to be alive? The days are so bright and things are getting green. I just love spring. Monday I didn’t have a meeting to attend and nothing special to do and I spent the better part of the supper hour commenting on how nice it was to ke able to Stay home, ete. Then Dolly Waite came down = and _ said, “What is your considered opin- ion of the current picture show- ing at the CASTLE THEATRE? I couldn’t remember what was on but it was a good idea so we went, I have decided the nicest way ~ to get around is by way of The other day I was just coming out of our gate when Vic Jones went by on his way to work. You'd nev- . ex: think to look at it-that’ there ie is room for a hitch-hiker on a tractor, but you can’t always tell by looks. Room there is and I tell you I jumped on in a hurry without a second invitation Vic had to turn off on Maple Street to go plow somebody’s garden but I’m just waiting for some- time when he has the scoop at- tachment on the tractor — then I'll ride right through town and get to work in style. Friday I had a birthday and the latest description of me is “that well-preserved look!” Now really! do you think that is nice — or necessary? Don’t answer that question. Anyway I had a lovely birthday. Mom made a great big cake — it had to be big to hold all the candles and I blew them all out too — good for met Doreen Pitts had brought up mysterious looking pack- age The night. before and in- sisted that ft must not be opened until the proper day. I didn’t weaken, but it- was quite a Struggle. It was shaped’ like a@ doll house and we took turns guessing what it could be. More fun! turned out to be a beauti- ful vase with a nice wide mouth — I’ve wanted one for ten years. We put pussy willows in it right away but I can just see a great big bouquet in it pretty soon. After Civil Defence we went to the St. Alban’s square dancing party. As far as I can remem- ber, I have never had so many people wish me a happy birth- day at one time before. Very nice. Saturday was the United Church tea and I fully intended to go and take Heather with me. ° By ‘lunch time she was so tired and cross I decided to leave her home with her daddy to look after her but thought I’d better put her to sleep first. To make a Iong and not very good story short, by the time I woke up it was too late to go to the tea. As, I’ve said before, I simply will have to reform.
