In the same year the Hudson’s Bay Co. opened a store. In the year 1893 Nelson received year- round rail service over what is Burlington Northern line. Nelson's first newspaper, The Miner, was, founded as. soon as the community got its permanent name. John Hou- ston, who was to become the city’s first mayor upon incor- poration was one of the men responsible for the paper in 1890.
