Farnswarth; North . twick, Van- time, four-y id Russ Lund- quist presented the newlyweds with a silver horseshoe de- corated with heather and doves which had been sent from Scotland. A large green and white heart and streamers decorated the Kinnaird Hall for the late afternoon reception, Guests were assisted in signing the wedding book by Miss Olga Koorbatoff, a friend of the bride. A hand-crocheted table: cloth, made by Mrs. C. Vander- burgh of Oliver, graced the head table, while draped across the front of the table and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clive Eason secured by white bells was a banner inscribed with “Athlyn and Bob” in gold lettering. White candles decorated - with apricot marabou feathers and. lily-of-the-valley, provided the setting for the three-tier wedding cake. Made by the” bride's mother and decorated by Mr. Gary Aubert, each tier of the cake. was separated by white pillars and beautifully decorated with apricot roses and white doves. A miniature bride and groom standing in a satin wedding bell topped with two: doves holding wedding rings, graced the top of the cake, Master of ceremonies was a close friend of the families, Mr. Denny Hughes of Castle- gar, who presented a special gift to the bride and groom of a pair of tin pants for the bride and a can opener for the groom. ‘The gift had been made by the couples in the family on their : wedding day — a tradition that is more than 25 years old. Mr. Jim Shaw of Osoyoos toasted the bride with memo- ries from the day she was born, to the day of her wedding. A toast to the newlyweds and parents of the bride was proposed by best man John Hall, with replies from the groom; and a toast to the couple's attendants was made by the-groom, For a honeymoon trip to Banff, the bride donned a two-tone forest green dress with attached hood and black accessories. For jewelry accent, she wore a three-tone gold heart pendant, which was a birthday gift from the groom. Out-of-town guests attend- ed from Medicine Hat and Burdett, Alta.; Kimberley, Oso- yoos, Nelson and Trail. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Eason [High Pressure | Keeps. Stormy ’ Weather Up North A ridge of high pressure over British Columbia resulted in a pleasant October in the Kootenay area. This ridge kept the major Pacific storms well into the northern portion of the pro- vince, and only occasionally allowed any rain into the Castlegar area. The total rain- fall (15.2 mm.) was only a quarter of normal (60.7 mm.) but well above the record low of 3,8 mm, set in 1967, ‘ No snow. was reported, al- though October receives 2.7 ems. on the average. The month was average in most respects, with no major records being set, The average . wind speed of 6.8 k.p.h, tied the previous record low for Octo- ber. Sunshine was quite a bit above normal (114.9) with 166.4 hours being recorded. With the air being very stable under the ridge, fog with visibilities of less than three- quarters of a mile was reported on 17 days, and smoke reducing the visibility was reported on 19 days. Tobacco-Flavored ‘Clikkers' Gum Pulled off Shelf A major department store chain has pulled its tobacco- flavored chewing gum off the shelves permanently after pres- sure by the Consumers’ Asso- ciation of Canada. “Based on the calls we've had, it just isn't worth it," a Zellers Ltd. official said from the company's Montreal head office. “We're taking it right off the shelves.” The 100,000-member asso- the product — some stores were selling it as a Halloween special — saying it was irres- ponsible’ to sell the. tobacco- flavored Clikkers gum as a Halloween treat for children. “What are the chances that children who acquire a taste for tobacco-flavored gum will be encouraged to try tobacco it- self?” the association asked.
