The -boys were in good spirits and outside.of being a little hun- gry, none the worse for wear. They had-gone into the mine and hit ed |the wrong trail coming out. When the sun started to set they took @ compass bearing on it and Red Mountain . and headed . straight across. country for home, When ‘darkness closed in they, had their Bivouad, already built and settled down comfortably to sleep till day- pent and then on home, They knew.their mothers would be wor- led, but they ‘also knew the folly catter dark in the off right on for the journey with @ he gear to spend a night out in the open and fuliclnt food for the patrol. A routine patrol in the world of a scout but when &p.m. rolled around on, Sunday night and the boys had not showed up, Castlegar ‘search and rescue units were called out to help locate the boys in case of an’ accident. ‘Both the boys’ fathers and their Scout leader were on the spot and went in to where the boys had camped the first night while another unit headed in from where they were supposed to come out. By 2a.m. it was definitely de- cided that the boys were on the right trail but due to heavy snow conditions and the thawing wea- ther on Sunday that they would break through the crust and it would make such heavy going that they couldn't possibly’ make it out. on Sunday and would have to bed down for.the night so the search was called off till’ daylight, and we returned home to line up crews, fear, lunches and snowshoes to hit the trail with at, dawn.
