C. Maddecks and Kin- naird village chairman Carl Loeblich de- bate the prog and cons of a district mun- icipality under the sponsorship of Sel- kirk College and the Castlegar and Dis- trict Chamber of Commerce. Every resident of the Castlegar dis- trict from Blueberry Creek through Ootis- chenia, Brilliant, Raspberry, Pass Creek and Syringa Creek should put everything else aside to attend the forum. Any service clubs or organizations that meet on Tuesday nights should cancel their meetings or ajourn their proceedings in time to allow their members to arrive at the activity room for the starting time of 7.30 p.m. While the format of the debate as outlined by Prof. John Ohliger of Selkirk College is such that it is unlikely that Messrs. Maddocks and Loeblich will en- gage in any fireworks, nonetheless the question-and-answer period should be a highlight of the evening when all re- sidents of this vast area will have the op- portunity of putting questions to the panel. Kiernan’s Letter on Park Was Ridiculous . The letter sent Castl il by Recreation Minister Ken Kiernan on the matter of the Syringa Creek park was rid- lous. If the letter is read closely, it will be found that the minister didn’t deny know- ledge of the park proposal or ‘of a p i that he himself doesn’t know what is going on in the crown authority of which he is a director. The facts of the matter are that Hydro \ @PLEASE, DEAR, NOT WHILE WE'RE EATING. VICTORIA REPORT chairman Dr. H. L. K the park at a meeting of the Chamber of here last year while the Auth- by B.C. Hydro that it will be developed. Rather he asks to be informed of any com- mitment by B.C. Hydro whereby the Au- thority itself will develop the park. We consider this to be nitpicking of the highest order and unworthy of a min- ister of the crown. It appears the minister wants to pro- long any corresp on the and so has chosen to quibble over phrase- ology. that apparently left him with the im- ‘pression that people here expect the Au- thority to develop the park. Like Mr. Kiernan, we too assume that most residents of the Kootenay area ex- pected B.C. Hydro to develop the park since it first proposed it. But we suggest the minister could have set the record straight without in turn giving the ALOOK ATEXPO ority made it quite clear in a booklet it published that the department of recrea- tion and conservation would undertake the park’s development. It now remains only for Mr. Kiernan to recog this ~ and inform local residents of when the park's develop: ment will be commenced; or for him to take issue with B.C. Hydro for making commitments on behalf of his department without prior consulation (if such was the case) and to tell the Authority to carry out its own pledges. In the latter instance, local residents will then expect B.C. Hydro to announce when it will carry the project out, notwith- standing Mr. Kiernan’s remarks that the Arthority has not yet developed a park it- self anywhere in the province. . By Tracy S. With a shave, a clean shirt and a pure heart, a man on his own can see more in 18 hours than a family can in 18 days. a Last weekend I reconfirmed this theory, which I have held since I got married. i had a whole day, a wild and wicked day in the city all by myself. No work, no domestic bliss, not a single crisis to solve for 24 hours. Last summer I traveled about 6,000 miles, but didn’t seem to get anywhere. The reason, of course, was that I had along my wife and daughter, Women complicate things beyond measure, and gametimes almost beyond endurance. In the first place, they never know what they want to do. Before-every excursion, -there’s :a twe-hour discussion about: what shoes to wear, where to eat, what show to go to, whether we have time for both or should we eat later, how much it’s going to cost, what time we should get to bed, and why it will probably de a lousy evening anyway. Then, at the crucial moment, when it’s time to get cracking, and there isn’t a minute to lose, they have to shave their “legs, or paint their toinails, or change their girdles, or put their hair up or down. Last summer I covered more miles pacing up and down hotel rooms, waiting for them, than I did on our transcontinental trip by plane, train and car. Now if I'd been taking my wife and/or daughter with me last weekend it would have been about as simple as setting up the United Nations. Write and reserve a hotel room. Write and get tickets for a show or concert. Make elaborate plans for meeting each other for lunch in the city, after our chores were done, But this time it was different.
