Wednesday, March 11, 1992 _ One for the road... Selkirk College students took the drinking and driving message with them wherever they went last week. The campus celebrated Alcohol Awareness Week, using its innovative Designated Driver Incentive Program as its vehicle to promote responsible drinking. The week was hardly as serious as the topic, though, as students used a variety of means to get the message across. Among the several activities arranged by Selkirk students were Jell-O wrestling competitions at the Lion’s Head Pub, a & o PL [" ¢ [ee ¢ AK e i mock accident, pudding find contests, ice cream snarfling and a pub crawl. Dollars spent to improve conditions in our present location would be a questionable in- vestment, expecially when considering it’s potential for redevelopment for commercial uses. Increasing the parking for the down- town would be one such use. Several years ago the gravel pit area close to the Community Complex was identified as a potential works yard. There is a concern with truck and other heavy equipment through a predominantly residential area from a safety and noise stand point. There are much better uses for river view proper- ty close to recreation and shopping.
