I wll ,.... llmy I got a message from Wilf Manson of the Rossland Eagles a couple of days ago telling me of an affair the club is sponsoring at Lions Park in Rossland. It is going to be a pork roast with three pigs on the spit. That should make for some pretty good eating for hungry Rosslanders and people from around the area. Yes, it's open to all for a nominal fee on Aug. 22, the final day of the LiWe League finals. It would be a good spot to eat between games! This week the Retirees in Rossland bad another fantastic day, as far as the weather was concerned. It bad a good turnout with 57 attending. As we are seeing new faces each week it would appear that if they all tum up for one round we would have a hundred out there or better. This week, Joe Bielli and Davey Nicol were in charge and chose honey pot points, high and low bidden boles plus a long putt on No. 9. It produced the following winners: in honey pot Don Krug garnered 18 points, Chuck Rommerdabl 17.5 and Frank Blackwell 17. That was what I would call competition with a capital "C". Bart Dudley won bidden high on No. 7 and low was on No. 4 and was won by Gord McLaren. The long putt on No. 9 was a magnificent 30-footer by Pat Martin, one of the best so far. Next week we have an offer from Barney Boycbuk to man the besk but Barney tells me he's going to need someone who knows the job as a helper as he bas never done it before. We'll fix you up, Barney, with 7 a.m. the start time. With our Golden City Days celebration and its usual group of visitors on band all clubs in town are pointing towards efforts to attract their share of the incoming tourist traffic. They always seem to be attracted by our fantastic fall weather, the meeting of new friends. Then, of course, there are many who arrive because it's old home week to a number of our young people wo have taken jobs elsewhere. Last night I attended a Branch 14 meeting who this year have been granted rights to produce the usual beverage garden on their own premises. People will have the choice of indoors or outdoors to partake of their favorite beverage. The large lot to the north of our building will be open for use as well as our usual beverage rooms. This event, I understand is to be well advertised so keep your eyes and ears open so you won't miss any of the fun. The whole Golden City Days is always great. Races for the kiddies and a marathon for the people who take part in this particular sport, slow-pitch ball tournaments and the usual showing of the produce of Rossland's gardeners, ladies' productions in the kitchen and the ovens and if you feel lucky, your gambling urge can be sated in the arena at the crown and anchor and various other games of chance to be played. Hope to see you all there from far and near at Rossland during Golden City Days. From Jim Schuck, Branch 14 member and West Kootenay Zone Commander comes the following notes re the East-West Zone golf tourney held annually at the Creston course. For only the second time in its history the West Kootenay zone were the winners. They tourney started in 1971. Eighteen members, seven of them from Branch 14, represented the West and on accepting the winner's trophy, Comrade Jim thanked all concerned for an excellent tournament. Representing Rossland were Jim Schuck, Amie Sherwood, Jon Holm, Bert Pengelly, Bart Dudley, Peter Brown and Tommy Clark and I'm told all acquitted themselves nobly. Thirty-five took aprt from the East Kootenay Zone. All good things mt come to an end, And so it's time to say, 'Til next time, then! E
