Trygve "Trig" Kaardal

On Friday, February 8,.1991,
Trygve “Trig” Kaardal of Robson,
BC passed away at the age of 62
years.

A memorial Service will be beld
at the Robson Community Memori-
al Church on Saturday, February
16, 1991 at 1:00 pm with Moris
Kaardal officiating. A musical trib-
ute to Trig will follow immediately
afier the Memorial Service at the
Robson Community Hail.

Mr. Kaardal was bom Septem-
ber 15, 1928 at Outlook, Sask-
atchewan. Mr, Kaardal enjoyed
Golf, Curling, music, family and
friends. He was a member of the
Sons of Norway and the Royal
Canadian Legion, and Old Time
Fiddlers Association.

Peter P. Relkoff..

A well known Castlegar and
District resident Peter P. Relkoff
of Raspberry passed away in
Castlegar Hospital on the evening
ss February 2, 1991 at the age of
73. -

Peter was born on march 24,
1917 in Brilliant, BC, the only son
of Pete and Martha Relkoff. On
March 31, 1940, ber mamried Elsie
Zebroff of Grand Forks, BC.
Their interest and activities were
always centered around their
home, family and community.
Peter was a loving and devoted
husband, father and grand father.

All his life Mr, Relkoff worked
as 2 carpenter in construction, as
well as in cabinet making. Hob-
bies were gardening and ladle
making. . ‘

He was a life long member of
the Union of Spiritual Communi-
ties of Christ and devoted all his
energy towards cultural and com-
munity activities. His love for tra-
ditional Doukhobor singing was
evident in his 30 year participa-
tion with the Brilliant and Choir
and most recently with the Koote-
nay Psalmists.

He is survived by his wife

Coieman

“On Friday, February '$,"1991,°
Verda Alberta Coleman of Castle-
gar passed away at the age of 87
years,

Funeral service for the late
Mrs.. Coleman was held Tuesday,
February 12, 1991 at 11:00 am at
the Castlegar Funeral Chapel with
Rev. Dorothy Barker officiating.
Burial will be at Nelson Memorial
Park.

Mrs. Coleman was born
November 7, 103 at Chatham,
Manitoba and grew up in Maple
Creek, Saskatchewan. She moved
to Deep Park in 1942. She mar-
tied Henry Coleman in 1026 at
Robson, BC. While living at Deer
Park she served as Post Mistress
from 1924 until 1966. She and ber
husband also operated the board-
ing house and general Store. She
moved into Castlegar in 1967.
Mrs. Coleman enjoyed Music
especially playing the piano, read-
ing and cooking.

She is survived by 1 son, Roy
of Castlegar, 5 Grandchildren, 9
Great Grandchildren. 2 Brothers,
Cyril Williamson of Wyndel, BC
and George Williamson of. Cold-
water, Ontario.

She was predeceased by her

"It has to be second nature,” said David Martin, B.C.
Ambulance Unit Chief. "When you're on a call, you have to
know what to do instinctively -- you can't look it up in the
book."

To this end, the 21 men and women who staff "Operator
402", the Castlegar station practice lifesaving techniques on
regular basis. -

“Any two people (attendents) can go out together on a call
and work together equally well. The level of patient care will
be consistent," said Martin. "We try to have practices at least
one night every two weeks.During a practice we discuss poli-
cy changes, review recent recommendations from the B.C.

The station's ambulance attendents, all but two ; volunteer

their time and training, have their own way of dealing with

what can sometimes be a tough situation.

"You develop sort of a wall," said Randy Grant. "And we
all support one another. Especially on a bad call, it helps to
talk it out. It's sort of an outlet. We use it all the time." 4

And while practice prepares the crews to handle whatever
may come their way, what does come their way is never a
sure thing.

“No call is routine," pointed out an attendent.
