Movement to Consolidate Vernon and Nelson With Inland. INSPECTING THE LINES Superintendents Kent and Hopkins Now Mskiug Tour of Boundary Oountry— Great Improvements Would Result—The Inlend's Extensive System in the Btates. A deal is under way for the sale of the Vernon & Nelson company’s system to the Inland Telephone company, of the United States, with a view to its consolidation with the latter company’s system of long dis- tance lines. The proposition is understood to haye emanated from the Vernon & Nelson and to have been the cause of the trip which H. W. Kent, the general manager of that line, is making through the Boundary country with C. B. Hopkins, of Spokane, superintendent of the In- land company. They are examin- ing the lines with a view to deter- mining their value and the improve- ments which are needed.
