Pulpit & Pew 74 by Ministers in tneHEE Kootenay. \ Pastor JOHN A. HILL Calvary Baptist Church When I was first asked to write an article for this column, all I could think of was “mission impossible.” A few years ago there used to be a television show called “Mission Impossible” in which the heroes always accomplished the impossible task. The show was of great interest toa large number of people and enjoyed good ratings for a long time. Let me ask you a ques- tion: What is it in this kind of make-believe that draws us to the television every week? In contrast the “Mission Impossible,” in real life we see the United Nations’ mis- sion to Iran which seemingly achieved little, if anything, and consequently . will be quickly forgotten. Why? The answer to both of these questions is that every. one of us wants to do some- thing that others are not doing, or cannot do; some- thing worthwhile for ‘people to take notice of, and say, “Hey! that’s really some- thing, I wish I could do that.” But, if that person that you or I admire is a Christian, we would probably say, “It wasn't him or her at all, it must have been God — he or” she couldn't do that.” This is often true because God works in men's and women's lives to do what man cannot 10. Man cannot decome a only forgive our wrong-doing and thinking, ‘but’ He. will make a new person of you, making you something you could never achieve yourself, and doing the: impossible: in x your life,'as well as giving Christian or do the impos- you eternal life. | - sible on his own.
