James Munro, a miner, waa killed and horribly mangled in the face and head and upper part of the body by the ex; Plosion of giant powder at about 8 o’clock last evening in the Columbia & Kootenay mine. Fortunately, Walter Rosé, who was on shift with Munro, wae at the time ofthe _ explosion come distence away and ee caped injury. The explosion was no doubt that of m‘ssing shot but no one knew. when it was left. Munro;was using « pick clear- ing away for the machine and it evi- dently came in contact with the dyna- mite and exploded it. Ross summoned the assistance of ; Frank Woodside and the mangled body of the unfortunate man wastaken out of the tunnel and Jaid in the blacksmith shop and the undertaker notified, who brought the remains to town. Munro was-23 yearsef ageand waa born in Wallace, N.8. He came to Rorsland about eight months ago and has been employed in the Columbia and Kootenay.ever since. He was & mem- ber of the miners’ union and will be buried by that order, The funeral will take place tomorrow under the auspices of the Miners’ union. The procession will leave the hall at 10;80 a. m. and March to the Preabyter- jan church, when eervices will be held, after which the remains will be taken to the cemetery for interment. ‘ Hunter Bros.
