They swept their weekend best-of-three playoff against Cranbrook 2-0 to earn the spot as Kootenay reps at the tournament to be held July 3 to 5 in Kamloops. In the first game, the girls led Cranbrook 5-0 after two innings, and crossed the plate five more times in the fifth to seal the victory. Pitcher Tamara Rezansoff struck-out nine bat- ters in the 10-3 victory. On the hitting side, Melanie Samarodin led with a triple and a single, while Christine Evdokimoff smacked a double, and Sherri Finch poked a pair of singles. In the second game Rezansoff put together another strong effort, fanning five Cranbrook batters. Along with relief pitcher Jaclyn Kalesnikoff, Cranbrook was held to only one run. The big inning offensively was the second, with six runs crossing the plate. Four of those came on a grand-slam homer by g Lugeing the year round JASON KEENAN Sun s Winter is invading summer. By taking the steel blades off of his sled, and putting on six inline rollerblade wheels, Mike Williams is able to luge year round. Williams, the president of Rossland Radicals Luge, said that learning to luge in the summer has one distinct ad He said that most of the other competitors spend $60 dollars on their wheel bearings, where he only spent $20. An upgrade will be coming soon he said. “The wheels on my sled are considerably slower." He said that the local support for the tournament was encourag- ing, and hopes that it might trans- late locally. He is considering sponsoring a similar event in “You're not standing a around in the cold waiting for your turn.” On the winding, steep roads in the hills above Trail, Williams takes his summer-converted sled and gets into shape for the winter. Currently the number-one ranked natural luger in B.C., Williams said that the three to four hours per week of summer practice is valuable. “It keeps you from getting rusty, and keeps the basics there so that when you start your rac- ing season it's easier to pick up and get in to top form.” At the B.C. Provincial Cham- pionship of Road Luge this past weekend in Courtney, Williams finished sixth overall, and second in the senior men's category. in Though his used sled cost $1,400, he said that cost is not a prohibitive factor in getting involved with the sport, His club has four club sleds used in winter racing, and he’s working on get- ting a summer sled put together. The cost of joining the club is $10 for youths, $15 for adults, and $30 for families. All that is needed is the proper equipment: boots, good leather gloves, and a helmet. 2°x4"x8' 2"x4"x10" 2°x4"x14' 2"x4"x16' 2"°x6"x10" 2"°x6"x12° 2"x6"x14' 2"x6"x16' 2"x8"x8' 2"x8"x10" 2"x8"x16" , Cedar Tone Pressure Treated Lumber Regular 3.35 ....
