W@ Branch No. 46 calls on community to up its membership list Taste buds were satisfied with the numerous casseroles, salads, not to mention pies and desserts at the Pot Luck supper held by the Castlegar Senior Branch No. 46 on April 30th. The entertainment con- sisted of the ‘Fiddling Tomp- kin Twins,’ which is always a bonus in the entertaining field. Karla Tompkins and Ker- ri Markin presented us with the number that won them second place at the PNE last year. : They were joined by Amy White for the Sailor Dance which was very well done. There were Highland dancers, Scottish dancers and tap dancers, all in cos- tumes. The program was thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks go to the teacher, performers and also to the mothers for having taken time out to bring their chil- dren to dance for us. The Castlegar Senior Branch No. 46 held their monthly business meeting on May 7 with 35 members present. Elsie Miller was named delegate to represent the branch a the convention in Trail on the 12, 13, 14th of May. Other members were encouraged to go also. All the new equipment in is set. up. The QSA seminar is sched- uled for 6:30 p.m., May 21 at the Terra Nova Motor Inn in Trail and is the kick-off event of a campaign designed to stem the estimated flow of be- tween $60 to $70 million out of the local economy each year because of out-of-region shop- ping. Featured at the seminar are Brian Marson, Comptrol- ler-General of British Colum- bia, who has been seconded to the Quality Service B.C. Sec- retariat. He is a dynamic speaker who recognizes that it is criti- cal for B.C. to improve service and management quality in order to compete internation- ally. Speaker Merv Stanley, manager of corporate quality at B.C. Tel and the executive director of the B.C. Branch of ° the Quality Association of Canada, will explain why B.C. Tel found it necessary to adopt a total quality attitude. Those attending the QSA seminar will also learn about local efforts to identify what is needed to retain shopping dol- lars in the region and the deci- sion by many diverse groups to focus on improving quality to combat the dollar drain. Prominent in the Quality Service Alliance are Greater Trail Community Futures, the Chambers of Commerce, Trail City Centre Association and Canada Employment. The seminar will address specific objectives and train- ing options that are available now to business managers and their staff. The QSA seminar is free, open to anyone interested.
