In most cases the text books required for the courses will be announced by the instructor when classes assemble in September. Text books will be available for purchase from the bookstore. Following each course description appears a series of four digits enclosed in round brackets. The meaning of each digit is as follows: FIRST DIGIT — Number of hours of lectures per week. SECOND DiGIr — Number of hours of laboratories per week. THIRD DIGIT — Number of hours of seminars per week. FOURTH bDiGir — Number of units of credit assigned to the course. (U.B.C.) GENERAL INFORMATION Students planning to proceed to a Bachelor of Science degree should elect at least one Biology course in their first two years. Those planning to enter a professional school such as Forestry, or the Nursing Degree course, should take Biology 111AB, Zoology 211AB or Botany 211AB. Students preparing to enter Medicine or Den- tistry will require Biology 111AB and Zoology 211AB.
