.... llsry 1 Although I was unable to attend in person, I got a good report on the "roast" held in honor of the girls who took part in the winning of the B.C. ladies softball crown in Kamloops some years back. Some of the girls who were on that team were not able to attend for one reason or another, but there were around 50 at the event which was held Saturday afternoon in Fruitvale. Bill Thompson of Fruitvale, who was a manager with that team, gave me a good report on the goings on. It was held in the community hall in Fruitvale and the party then held a barbecue at the ball park. A number of them were given the treatment. One was Joan Ferguson, who as Joan Molyneux in her playing days, was one of the kingpins of that team. One other I also remember, Shirley Williams, was on that team and according to Bill she helped to add a lot of fun to the goings-on on Saturday. I would certainly like to say to all of them, may your futures be everything you want them to be and I want to thank you one and all for the many hours of enjoyment, you gave me as I watched you all perform on the local ball diamonds during your playing days. Local minor soccer and the men's league have all started. I haven't seen any games yet but as soon as I get a number of loose ends tied up I'll start watching. I took my fifth trip around on Friday last, and it feels good to be out there. Since my hospital stay my legs have lost some of the elasticity they had before. I hope it will get somewhat better but when one is in the midseventies you can't have it all the way it was! However, I feel good to be out there but my game sure needs an overhaul. Ob well, it's early yet, my partners all walk away from me between shots but I'm in no hurry. The Kardiac Kids are off and numin8 again, I'll have to get out and watch some of their games. I remember when all of them were in their prime and there were quite a lot of really good ones. On the team today Cliff Taylor has gathered together a fine bunch of showmen who can liven up the proceedings in any ball park around. It seems to me it's going to be some time before a Stanley Cup winner will be declared. It's going to take a good guess to see who is going to correctly come up with the finalists at this point. And, I'm Just not going to stick my neck out any further than it is already. Nelson seems to be having quite a struggle in their battle in Ontario. It appears that this series is going to be an all-Eastern deal from here on unless Western teams get a better break from the people who call the shots on the rules. And with that, I'll say, 'Til next time, then! "
