CASTLEGAR NEWS, Thursday, March 10,1977 | By Pastor Donald W. Reed Life often has a habit of going sour on us. Do -, you know what I ; mean? We be- : come so easily dis- contented, dissat- isfie ed. Life tends to become a drag. The house we live in isn’t all that exciting anymore. The windows are too small, the, furnace is too noisy, the rooms are too cramped, the neighbors are too meddlesome. Not just the house, but the job too. It’s the same thing every day—never anything new or exciting; always the same old routine. Besides, it doesn't pay enough and the government takes too much in taxes, The boss is hard to get ° “along with and the working ° conditions ‘are’ “anything but. satisfactory. And the car? Oh it was O.K. for the first year or two—used to wash it every Saturday (or Sunday), kept the motor tuned up, changed the oil regularly. But it's got some rattles now and some scratches and squeeks. It's losing power and it's using oil. The tires are wearing unevenly and the up- holstery is getting dirty. Pro- bably time to trade it in. Yes, and I might as well say it: the .wife (husband) doesn’t turn me on like she (he) used to. I'm beginning to wonder what I saw in her (him) to begin with. The lustre and romance seems to be slipping out of our marriage. Now that gal (guy) down the street— wow! Why couldn't Thave been that lucky? _ é g Is that’ the’ way’ life is looking to you these days? Then Retired Schoolmaster Leaves Cash for Jesus Should Jesus Christ return - to earth within the next 80 years he could find an invested income from more than $44,000 waiting for him. Retired schoolmaster Er- nest Digweed, who died in Portsmouth last September, left the money for Jesus in his. will published this week. It named the public trustee as his executor and instructed that he should invest the money for 80 years for Jesus. But he instructed the executor to get proof of Jesus’ identity before paying out the accumulated sum. “If during those 80 years the Lord Jesus Christ shall come to reign on earth, then the public trustee upon obtaining proof which shall satisfy them of his identity shall pay to the Lord Jesus Christ all the property which they hold on his behalf,” Digweed wrote. If after 80 years there is still no sign of Jesus, Digweed said, the money should 80 to the Crown. maybe you should take a second look. Like the follow in the little incident below. You see, there was this. farmer who, having lived on the same farm all his life, grew tired of it and desperately craved a change. He subjected everything on the farm to his own blind and merciless criticism, and at last decided that he would sell and buy another farm more to his liking. Sohe listed the farm with a realtor who at once prepared a sales advertisement. for the newpaper. However, before submitting it he read over the very flattering description of the property to the owner. He told of the farm’s advantages: its ideal location, its up-to-date _ equipment, its fertile fields, its, a : well-bred stock. “Wait a minute,” said the farmer. “Read that again and take it slow.” The description was read over again. “Changed my mind,” said the farmer. “I'm not going to sell. I've been looking for a - place like that all my life!” Maybe it would be good if we could see that house, that job, that car, that wife (hus- band?) through someone else's eyes. Just maybe it would help us to appreciate the things we have a little more than we usually do. Do you remember what St. Paul said? “I have learned to be content in whatever circum- stances I am.” He also said, “ content with what you hav Think it over.
