CURB continued from front page O'Connor said citizen frustration has made CURB an easy sell in Castlegar. “We've had very little trouble finding people to join up,” O’Connor said. “It’s like once we let the cat out of the bag that a group has been formed, people can’t wait to drop their $5 (membership fee.)” ‘I look at this as a positive step.’ — Ald. Lawrence Chernoff O’Connor dismissed the notion that CURB consists of disgruntled citizens, eager to settle personal scores with city council. Instead, he said nothing could be further from the truth. “It’s not about personalities at all,” he said, “it’s about the lack of information the public is getting out of city hall. We have a right to know peep is going on with our money,” O’Connor said. Ald. Lawrence Chernoff agreed. He said city council will work with CURB to help get as much information out to the public as it can. “T look at this a positive step,” said Chernoff. “A citizens group could be helpful to city council.” Chernoff said it has been obvious that people are feeling out of touch with their elected offi- cials. He said CURB could help bridge that gap. “If (citizens) want to have an impact on the decisions city council makes, maybe this is the way to do it.” Chernoff said he hoped CURB and council would work together for all of Castlegar. “We want input,” he said. “We want people to have a say in what decisions we make. Hope- fully (CURB) can get the questions they want answered and take those back to the public.” Castlegar Mayor Audrey Moore was in Trail Regional Hospital Tuesday, unavailable for comment on the formation of s Other members of the CURB executive in- clude secretary Marlene Wallace and directors Jim Gouk, John Kazakoff, George Carreiro and John Moorlag.
