ROSSLAND EVENING.RECORD, APRIL 16, 190%. ATTHE OKANOGAN Development Pushed With a View to Enlarging the Mill. TO INSTALL WATER POWER Seoretary Peiser and Mr. King Return From # Bough Ride—Great Northern to Bo Ex- tended This Year—Blocking Ont Large Bodles of Ore. K. K. Peiser, secretary of the Okanogan Free Gold Mines Limit- ed, and G. M. King, of the Allan hotel, who is one of the directors, have returned from a trip to the mine near Oroville, and found it in first-class condition. Mr. Peiser said: ‘*We have over 2000 tons of ore blocked out ready for stoping and have struck the main ledge again in “the lower tunnel, At present we_ are doing nothing but strong de- velopment andstraightening out the mistakes of the former manage- ment. Most of our values are in low grade ore, which can be milled to great advantage by the installa- tion of electric power, which we shall obtain from Similkameen falls. There is a great body of water with a fall of 25 feet, which will furnish enough power not only for our mine but for every other miles around. The whole country is waiting for the power to be, furnished by this company. The mine will be run as economically as possible for some months to come and ore will be blocked out sufficient to warrant our putting in 20 more stamps in the fall. The Great Northern railway will be built this year to Bonaparte creek, within t5 miles of the prop- erty, and will be extended to Repub- lic next year. We shall be able to bring in all our supplies for next winter by railroad, instead of haul- ing them 60 miles, as at present.” Mr. King says that they hada rough drive of 50 miles from Green- wood to the mine, ‘When we came to Myers creek,” said he ‘‘it was a nightmare. The wagons tracks went through the river, which was much swollen, and I asked an Indian whether the wagon went through there. He said: ‘Yes' and I drove in. At the first jump, all I could see of the horses was their ears, for their backs went out of sight. I do not believe they touched bottom, but I drove them on and, when they reached the other bank. there was mud half way up their sides, “‘Chesaw a few months ago was nothing. Now every other house isa saloon or hotel. It has two stores, a blacksmith shop and about 20 saloons or hotels. Bolster is a small place, but jt has great prés- pects, for all along the road, the insides are honey d One of the worst parts of the trip was the 11 mile climb from Oro- ville to the He-he stone, where every man who passes leaves thi arag, a y bottle or any old thing.” HIT DREYFOUS AGAIN. ‘Watson no Sooner at Liberty Than He Repeats the Assault. Charles Watson, the young man who is commonly believed to be in- sane, was released from jail this morning, his father having paid the the fine of $10, which was imposed for the assault on Prof. Dreyfous, ‘Watson was no sooner free than he again hunted up Prof. Dreyfous and gave him anothergood blow with his fist. He then made all haste out of town, giving no time for another arrest. MINOR MENTION. Bruce White of Nelson arrived in the city this morning. C. Lawrence, J. L. Lawrence and D. W. Another puzzling problem - is what the labor unions will do. J M. :Martin wants them to. go in with him on the Cotton platform, though he has. cast an anchor to windward by fishing for the Liberal pomination, Should they. decide against the Cotton party or should seems probable, they will likely put up a labor candidate, as outlined by Ralph Smith in his .interview in the Recorp. The foundations for the new saw- mill of the Yale-Columbia Lumber company have been completed on the site of the one destroyed by fire recently. The machinery, which was brought from one of the com- pany’s mills at Greenwood, is on the ground and its erection has be- gun. It has nearly, if not quite, the same capacity as the old mill. Fowgh ‘on Galler and Warren London, April 17.—The war of- fice tonight publishes in the Gazette a dispatch from Lord . Roberts, dated February 13, submitting Gen. Buller’s dispatches describing the Spion kop and _ other - operations from January 17 to January 24. Lord Roberts deals severely with General Warren and some others. Even General Buller does not es- cape. Lord Roberts complains that the plan of operations is not clearly described in the dispatches. After stating General Buller’s intentions, as communicated to Sir Charles Warren, who commanded the whole force, Lord Roberts points out that Sir Charles Warren seems to have concluded, after consulta- tion with his officers, that the flanking movement ordered by General Buller was impracticeble and therefore so changed the plan of advance as to ‘necessitate the capture and retention of Spion kop.
