Rinks do fine without skips By Bud Lowther NEWS COLUMNIST At the midway point of the 4th draw the top rinks are. skipped as follows: Tom Wil- son with a 5-1 record and Arne Akselson and Peter Obedkoff with four wins and a loss each. Wilson and Akselson are not even in town, which just goes to show that some rinks do better when the skips are away. Frank Holdsworth, who plays third for Wilson, has skipped three games for lis absent leader, and has won them all. He is backed up by second Mike Bermel and by lead Norm Fishwick. They are presently the top guns. Some have been ‘educators, some philosophers, some leaders. In the sciences and politics, and not a few ave bééEn foundérs Of reli- gious systems. In addition to the major religions of the world, there seem to be plen- ty of new religions springing up and vying for the minds of humanity. History gives ample evi- : dence that from the earliest days of mankinds existence on this earth, humans have been. “incurably religious.” They have had convictions of “right and wrong”... . of forces of good and evil, of supreme beings to whom they are accountable, and always it seems, there is the hope of immortality! Be- cause the stakes are so high, people will do almost anything that they feel will rid them of their guilt, and assure them of a life of future blessedness be- yond this life. Everyone would like to be- lieve that their religion is the true religion. However, from what I have studied of the dozen or so of living world reli- gions, there are some very cru- cial differences that can help us determine whether or not our religion is of the true vari- ety or not. My understanding of several of the world reli- gions is that they begin with a human leader, who claims to have found the way to God and peace through his own ef- forts or rituals. Others have looked to the forces of nature, as the source of life and mean- ing. For example, the ancient Egyptians worshiped the sun as the source of all life. Others have the belief that a certain river is holy and the source of their life. However, they fail to take into account that the forces of nature are not God. They are merely objects of God's creation! —— Fhe Christian religion has its roots in the Jewish faith, that the one true God, maker of heaven and earth, has tak- en the initiative to reveal him- self to his prized creation... man! Thus, God made himself known to persons like Abra- ham, Moses, David, Isaiah and others, giving them glimpses of his greatness, his holiness and his love. For many many centuries God worked through the Jewish nation in an attempt to reach the rest of the world through them with a message of truth and forgiveness and hope! God’s most remarkable promises was that he would send a deliverer that would OUR ACTION AD PHONE NUMBER IS 365-7266 Pulpit & Pew’ Church of God Pastor Ira JOHNSON break the power of evil and give mankind a new purpose and hope. How can we make such a claim? Read carefully the fol- lowing “credentials” as given to us by the writer of the book of Hebrews. “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the Prophets, at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by his Son, whom He appoint- ed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radi- ance of God’s glory and the ex- act representation of His be- ing, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat. down at the right hand of the majesty in heav- en!” (Hebrews 1:1-3 N.I.V.) Because Christ is himself God, His sacrifice for the sins of all mankind is of sufficient worth to provide an adequate payment for the forgiveness of - all who repent of sin and place their faith in Christ. And be- cause Christ overcame the power of death and rose in tri- umph over his grave, He is able to offer both forgiveness and an eternal hope to all who will put their trust in Him! sivess CASTLEGAR NEO CHAMBER OF rre COMMERCE 365-6313 6th Ave Bluetop ViN 4B7 HOT ROAST BEEF SANDWICH 75 All Our Prices Include the G.S.T.
