This week's violent outbreakof terrorism in the Slocan Valley ‘emphasizes more than ever the need for some decisive action by the B.C. Government to settle the Sons of Freedom problem once and for all, The mass burning of homes, coming closely on the heels of which could very well have killed or injured any number of crew member’ and passengers, also lndicates there is a small but well organized core among the Sons ‘of Freedom, who are doing their best to see that no solution is reached, By thejr continued terrorism this lawless, maniacal minor- peace or any solu- ‘three si railway dy ity, show their tion to the unrest.’ to re Discovering the sources of the present wave of terrorism, is the job of our police force who were quite rightly considerably rein- forced in anticipation of thé unrest. They are, of course, entitled to the full cooperation of the public, especially of the Sons of Free- dom, who can prove their avowed harmonious intentions by giving the police any clues they may have. As for the solution to it all, it’s difficult but not impossible. The problem began with some of the’earliest Kootenay.settlers and the firm action the government has recently given promise of taking, should have been undertaken long ago, We realize, however, that the problem is a complex one. and any solution to it cannot be dreamed up overnight. Yet, having spent all the time till now on Traffic over the Ci Buses .. 0 Rigs .... HUBER Box 522 Phone 4922 Castlegar, B.C. Just LOOKING Thank you By E.G. 0. ~ At Madness Several thousand years 350, the Greek ation, and in the time for r action of some sort is certainly at hand. Relocation of the Sons of Freedom to Costa Rica is available ‘but indications are the majority of them wish to take their place as citizens of B.C, That is their right and ‘this peaceful majority should be wéleome to remain, As peaceful, law abiding and sincere citizens B.C, and Canada need them, Those that wish to relocate should also be given every oppor- tunity to do so. It is with the terrorist faction, however, that the problem lies. They wish neither relocation, peace in the Kootenays nor conformance to our laws. It would seem the only way of dealing with them is to counteract their violence with stern action. We think perhaps, the B.C. Government’ might very well re- radtivate the wartime B.C. Security Commission. Having been set up to forestall any possible threat from, Japanese residents of B.C, dur- cing :the war, this commission might very well solve the problem of actual violence and peace time sabotage the Kootenays are now experiencing. ‘Canade’s |.
