Drifting is now being prosecuted by the American Eagle Mining company on..the ore shoot of the Nevada, which was tapped by- the crosscut from the No. 2. tunnel. After the tunnel had been driven 180 feet in a line ‘vertically under the croppings, the ledge was again caught by a crosscut, which was run 70 feet southwesterly. This Was at the tail of an ore shoot which had been exposed by stripping the ledge, 100 feet vertically above. Rails are being Jaid and cars run into the tunnel for: the purpose of taking out ore. A long petition asking for:the. re- moval of disorderly women from Lincoln street was referred to the police commissioners, the matter being outside the jurisdiction of the- council, The report of the finance com- mittee raising the salary of the city auditor from $15 to. $20 a month was passed, the increase being due to the addition of the water depart- ment accounts to the auditor's work. The end of the smallpox epidemic was reported by Dr. Reddick, the last case, that of Chisholm, having been discharged on April 14.
