This is a general” outline of the need. for an enlarged facility in-
corporating up-to-date service areas for the treatment of persons in
this area requiring hospitalization. The following questions and ams-
wers may further help in assessing: the need: '

t QUESTION: Why is this’ enlarged hospital necessary?

ANSWER: For the past few years the number of beds in the: present
hospital have not been sufficient to accommodate the people requiring

hospital treatment. This has caused inconvenience to the public -by-

way of cancelled admissions and in some cases the early discharge of

“patients who would have benefited by a further day or two in hospital.

In an effort to cope .with the increased: demand for. admissions
extra beds were authorized to be set ‘up in the hospital’ and this did
assist to:some extent although ; it did in. turn create another: problem
which was an increase-in the operating cost of the’ hospital because
extra staff was: required to operate these beds.

‘QUESTION: Why not just add the extra beds? . hen
ANSWER: Service: areas are required in.a hospital, in relation to: the

number of beds in operation. Tn the. existing’ hospital many of the
