People are dis" satisfied with their jobs, with hi ied lives or with satisfaction comes stress and strain, One way of counteract: ing this pressure is to get away from our everyday jobs and occupy our minds and bodies with something that may give us emotional con- 'aY,|tentment — with something 27 that may give us enjoyment, Recreation is enjoyment. I define recreation as all typ- es of physical and ‘mental act- ivities which can satisfy our feelings. Such activities or hobbies may involve music, or gardening. While carrying out these feel l activities, we relax and content. Our minds, in a pec- uliar way, are at rest, and re e enjoy ourselves. We have our basements, for instance, or we sweat it out putting new roofs on our houses, according to the new mod- ern craze, “do-it-yourself.” Too many of us spend the weekend sitting in cars, bumper-to-bumper on a high- way, or at a crowded beach. Or we do something because somebody else insists that we shall do it. Recreation was not meant 2 a way of satisfying one’s’ emotional needs by running away from oneself. Recreation is really tak- ing yourself in hand and en- joying every minute of what- ever you are carrying out. This “running away from oneself” is one reason wey people talk so much abou what to do with their time Ww with themselves because they have so much time on their hands.
