Witnesses hold
fall convention

Jehovah's Witnesses were
back together again in Trail’s
Cominco Gym on the week
end for their fall convention,
the purpose of which was to
help all attending to examine
their Christian way of life
and see where they might

He reasoned on what could
correctly be termed “acts of
God” and what could not.

“The flood of Noah's day
was an act of God” he said.
“The battle of Armageddon,
now imminent, will also be an
act of God.

“But don’t blame God for

part in the two-day program.
Two traveling ministers at
tended and did a considerable
amount of the speaking and
teaching. However, the maj
ority of the program was
presented by local people.

For example, Saturday af
ternoon the Norman Jury
family from South Slocan told
how they have each worked
to do their role as family
members to walk according
to Jehovah's righteous stan
dards.

Again, there was an inter.
esting skit by Brian McKee
and his son Jeff of Trail,
about how even small chil
dren can be trained to sit at
tentively and learn while at
congregation meetings.

While Bible standards of
morality have been aban
doned by many who claim to
be Christian, they are still
insisted on by Jehovah's
Witnesses.

“How old fashioned!” you
may say. “Progressive!” is
what it was dubbed at this
convention.

John Kisielewski of Castle-
gar spent 45 minutes Sunday
morning reasoning on why a
Christian could not consider
himself “progressive” unless
he maintains the morally
clean standard of the Bible.

He ruled out pornographic
literature, “debased rock
music” and excessive use of
alcohol as morally unclean
and he urged all in atten
dance to vigorously resist
social pressure to get in
volved in such things.

Saturday morning a con
vention highlight was the
baptism, which is actually an
ordination ceremony.

Baptisms are by complete
water immersion after hav
ing completed a vigorous and
comprehensive course of
study of Bible teachings.

The main event came on
Sunday afternoon when
Wayne Johnson, a traveling
minister of 20 years, spoke to
an audience of 918 on the
subject: Acts of God — What
are They?
