The hue and cry has died down but the memories of this Golden City Days stays with us. I guess that's one of the reasons it is such a crowd-pl~r. This time around I didn't tie myself down by promising to do any jobs for the organizations to which I belong and I was free to move around. This year the Legion had the beer garden and the ladies' auxiliary started the morning off with their beef-on-a-bun - a real tasty snack, if fact for some people it is a full meal Then after the beer sales got under way they ran a fantastic snack bar - hot dogs, hamburgers and all the trimmings. I'll tell you it does one's heart good to see the way branch members and LA got things going and kept them up for 10 hours without a let-up for two full days. Every angle was covered and there is no way that one can pass lightly over the effort put in by the special teams, who did all the prepatory work to get everything ready for the masses who flocked into that beer garden over two days. And when I say masses I am not fooling. 'Then there were the people who must have given many hours of their spare time to prepare the floats entered in the parade on Saturday morning. I know the Legion's was a lot of work and we were extremely fortunate to have Edith McCuaig, Lll Karenko, Harvey McKay and Lloyd Karenko in charge of it. I don't think we could have had a better team no matter how far we might have searched. We should not forget our pilot, Bernie Fourt and the two Vets who graced the float by sitting on it through the Northport parade and our own, it takes a special kind of person to do that job and we did very well with Joe and Dorothy Gyte. Another thing I want to mention in coooection with our Golden City Days is the breakfast put on by the Oddfellows and Rebeccas. It's a real joy to go over there on a Sunday morning and partake of such a hearty meal for such a reasonable price - all you can eat, too. I did not attend any of the other meals which were available but it was a little oversight which made us miss the Credit Union supper at the school We were doing something else and it got too late. Anyway, a last word on this subject - it was once again a great show and a credit to Rossland. Now to something else about our town, the Rossland Warriors are going to be playing an exhibition game in Trail, actually by the time you read this they will have played. I think they had a scheduled date in Grand Forks over the weekend but upon enquiring I heard that it was cancelled. There is quite a bunch of tryouts coming in from all over so I guess we'll have to have a look-see before the reguµar season get underway. Most of the same people are in charge, coach and assistants are still the same as a year ago and the addition of players may be a good deal for them. And now, to Retirees Day golfing. Next week we hope to see a full group on hand for our season-end extravaganza. This week there were 52, which isn't bad but we have been up in the &O's and 70's. It will be nice to finish our 1987 season with a flourish, people like to remember things like that. It's all been explained to you before so I don't need to repeat .t. I shall get on with the fortunes of those who won balls this week. Figures and facts by that estimable gent, my friend, Bart Dudley. In low net it was Arch McCannel's 33 that picked up the prize, Ike Bosse tied Arch but since he won closest to the pin on No. 3 they didn't want a draw for low net. In low gross it was Jack Buchanan with a 41 while Sammy Anselmo had 13 putts in his round to take least putts. Russ Broughton won the long putt on No. 9 with one of a 12-14 foot. Lloyd Ridenour won the hidden high hole with a score that was not available. Next week, if memories are clear, we shall have a of this Golden City Days stays with us.
