Castlegar Ph, 345-7013 Recreation News Attendance Registration Good At Fitness Testing Stations By Jack Alouf So far, ‘Keep A Fit Heart Month’ has been a great success, Last, week’s filness testing stations saw over 425 people out for testing and information. Of these, 240 actu- ally went through the tests, This figure does not include the 335 secondary school students who also partleipated in the testing. The testing was done during normal school hours to alleviate the congestion during the three days open to. the general public A final count’ on the WAMM Walks held earlier this + month was 875, and our Reerea- tion Sunday saw 50 people taking part. All this gives us a grand total of 1,350 people who have actually taken part in ‘Keep A Fit Heart Month’. This coming Sunday is Heart Sunday, and the canvas- sers will be out door-to-door, ,et’s hope everyone particl- pates by donating to this very worthy cause. The success of our ‘Keep A Fit Heart Month’ and for that matter, any special event or recreation program in a com: munity, is, in the final analysis, completely dependent upon the volunteers and the participa. tion of the public. Because of the wonderful “ public support for events and recreation programs in Castle- gar and area, we have enjoyed many suecessful programs. I would like to publicly thank everyone for the support that I have received over the past three years and hope that you will continue to support your new recreation director and Recreation Commission No. 1, so that recreation will continue to develop in this area. By John Dalziel As the month of February draws to a close, so does the draw for the third round robin, Play last week brought about a few changes in the standings but, even at this late date, there fs still time for anyone of half a dozen rinks’ to finish at the top. It seems to me that this go-round has seen a much more balanced set of rinks and this, in turn, has made for keener competition and better curling. As a result’ of games - played last week, the standings -as of.the beginniong of this week are as follows: Everard ‘and Jacobson on top with nine points each; Dalziel Might -be- hind with elght, Woytella curl- ing well with seven; a bit of congestion with three rinks having six, Lyons, Bradford and Murphy; Verzuh with four; LeRoy three; and Goffinet with two, rounds things off. - The three remaining games each rink has to play will tell the tale, Two of these games will have been played by the time this is being read, and that could make a big difference in the standings. Next week will see the finish of this round robin. It is doubtful if there will be enough time left for another, so it will be necessary to arrive at some decision as to how we will round out the season. Games left to play are as follows: * ‘Tuesday, March 4—Lyons vs, Goffinet, Bradford vs. Ever- ard, Woytella vs. Jacobson and loys ‘Wednesday, March 5—Dal- ziel vs. Murphy; three sheets for scratch games. Thursday will be utilized for short scratch games, fol- lowed by a meeting to deter- mine how we will fill the balance of the season. This will BINGO Each: Thursday _ be a very Important mecting and it is strongly urged that every member make a deter- mined effort to attend, Tomorrow evening will see the start of the annual Ladies’ Powder Pulf Bonspiel and we of the pensioners, wish them every success, Several of our members have indicated their willingness to make an appear- ance during the weekend and help the girls out in their big effort of the year, The Butterfly Drop.
