COMIN, A.Sc.T. intendent of Public Works 460 Columbia Avenue, B.C. ~ Cyclists raise $1,394 Pouring rain never dampened the spirits of 192 cyclists from all over B.C. — including two from Castlegar — who cycled 200 kilometres Sept. 15 and 16 to raise money for the British Columbia ‘Lung Association’s sixth annual Bicycle Trek for Life and Breath. Castlegar cyclists Robyn and Stuart Austin raised $1,394, contributing towards a grand total of $123,000 for the association after taking pledges and cycling the two-day route that » began and ended in Fort Langley and Passed through Sumas, Lynden, Cultus Lake, Yarrow and Bradner. “The trekkers said they had a good time despite the wet weather, and their’ enthusiasm showed in the 41- pet-cent increase in money raised over last ‘Year's total. The funds go towar- ds medical research, health education and community programs. We hope the trek has also increased awareness of the importance of exercise and good lung health,’’ Scott McDonald, executive director of the association, said in a news release. Each trekker was required to raise $350 before the event. Incentive awards were offered to encourage trekkers to raise more than the minimum. The top fundraiser was 57- year-old Bob Koch of Campbell River, with $4,200 in pledges. Major sponsors for the trek were Norco, Air Canada, the Vancouver Courier newspaper, 1066 Hastings Restaurant and Robson Cycles.
