Mr. Soros is a director of the supreme lodge of the Sons of Norway in’ Minneapolis, Minn, The evening began with an excellent buffet dinner pre- pared by the members from South Slocan, This was fol- lowed by renditions of two Norwegian songs by Mr. and Mrs. Ivor Reinsbakken, of Castlegar and a musical inter- fude played by Allen Johnson and Trig Kaardal. May 17, 1814 marks the semi-revolutionary declaration Spokane Girl Scout Troops Join Local Girls in Camp Out Under the leadership of Mrs, Dianne Strader, assisted by Mrs. Joan Roth, the Third Rinnaird Girl Guides Company on the weekend hosted mem- bers and leaders of three Spokane Girl Scout Troops fora campout at Syringa Creek. Guests were American Junior Scouts and Cadets, ages 9 to 12, with Troops 19 under Mrs. Joyce Austin, who plan- ned the trip to Canada, assisted by Mrs. Janet Goddard; Troop 422 under Mrs. Dale Hooker assisted by Mrs. Peggy Mac- Lean; Troop 495 under Mrs. Donna Stempler assisted by Mrs. Zelma Clark and Mrs, Rose Gallaway. They totaled 46 in all, including Senior Scouts, Tents and equipment were set up with supper followed by an evening at the campfire. the visitors and presented Lynn Birch with her Canada Cord. After treats, donated by the Kinnaird Ladies’ Auxiliary, the girls retired for the night. Saturday saw the sun shining and after a pancake breakfast the girls took off ona hike and a cookout lunch. After lunch the Spokane girls went shopping at Castlegar and Kinnaird. The highlight of the trip was a stop at the police station where the girls took pictures of Constable Garry - Kretzul in his red uniform. The girls had their picture taken with the constable who ans- wered their many questions. After supper, a campfire was held and Twin Rivers division commissioner Mrs. Reg Bro, district commissioner from ff Area }. Stanley Brownlow, welcomed Children's Summer Reading Program Off fo Good Start Mrs. R. Ed- wards and Guides and Leaders from Castlegar, Robson and Thrums joined in. A sing-song was held and Mrs. Donna Stempler pre- sented her troop with badges earned. After treats the girls returned home and the others retired for the night. D. Lawrence. The children's summer reading program got off to an excellent start last week with over 50 children enrolled. The reading program has been further aided by a substantial number of books from the Trail Municipal Library. . The regular monthly meet- breakfast. A small token of a bookmark with the Canadian Guide laws and a token from Cominco were then presented to each Spokane Scout and Leader from the Third Kin- naird Guide Company. Names were exchanged so they might have pen pals. After striking their tents and clean up, a quick lunch was had and the girls departed for home. | Before leaving, an invita- tion was given to the older Guides and Rangers to attend a camp at Coeur d’ Alene’ in September. Thanks was extended to the girls for making an joyable time. He added the Doukhobor dinner and choir at the conyention gave many of the visitors an entirely different concept of this culture than they had previously held. The evening was rounded out by dancing. Late evening entertainment consisted of a small mate chorus aided by Ed Mosby of Castlegar and Otto Anderson of Robson displaying their terpsichorean skills.
