Festival of Arts Kamloops makes ready KAMLOOPS (CP) — The results of years of hard work by hundreds of B.C. artists are trickling into this south- ern Interior city and artists throughout the province are honing their skills in music, dance and drama in prepar- ation for the first B.C. Fes- tival of the Arts to be held here June 2 through 5. The festival is being or- ganized through the co-oper- ative efforts of the B.C. Music Festival Association, Theatre B.C., the Assembly of B.C. Arts Councils, the Association of B.C. Drama Educators, the B.C. Music Educators Association and the B.C. Student Film Fes- tival. OES Minto Chapter The provincial government. has allocated $500,000 from the Provincial Lotteries Fund for the festival and an additional $75,000 is being raised by the city. Barry McDell, general manager of the festival, has his hands full with planning for the billeting, transporting and. feeding ‘the 1,500 par- ticipants as well as co-ordin- ”- ating displays and events. Indian band members each receive $10,000 ' PENTICTON — Each member of the Penticton In- dian Band received $10,000 cheques Tuesday in settle- ment of a land claim agree- ment between he the band and the federal and provin: cial governments. : Three hundred and eighty cheques were distributed as part of the claim package, which includes a total of $14.2 million’ and the return of about 5,200 hectares of land to the band.
