THE FOLLOWING is from the Arrow Lakes News’ Thursday, Feb. 11, 1937 issue: A valiant fight was made by the skipper and crew of the steamer Columbia on the trip to Edgewood from Robson Thursday. The trip is ordinarily made in an afternoon, so accommodation for meals for passengers is not made. On-this trip it took almost 24 hours to make the 25 mile trip. Progress could only be made by pushing into the ice time and time again, breaking the solid surface a few feet at a time. The ice, which ranged from two to 12 inches in thickness was made even more resistant by the depth of the snow, which ranged up to 83 inches. The plucky steamer and crew even shared lunch buckets with the passengers in this heroic effort to get through. With Capt. M. McLeod on the Columbia are E.J. Nichols, engineer, Teddy Lodge and C.
