It can, by bringing to the notice of the financial world prospects and mines, which may induce capital to flow in the direction of the camp which it rey nts; by giving accurate and truthful information in a clear and straightforward. statements from time to time of PRESIDENT McARTHUR'S REPORT John McKane Elected Secretary. Facts of Interest to Every Citizen— At the board of trade meeting last evening, Acting Secretary Clabon with- drew his nomination and John J. Mc- Kane was unan.mously elected per- manent eecretary. Objections were made to Mr. McKane becanse he was a broker, and he then withdrew his nomi- nation. Editor Raceofthe Miner was then nominated and it looked as if the Race faction had a clear road until Dick Armstrong with quiet irony, ridiculed the objections made against brokers and proposed that a committee of min- isters be appointed to select a secretary who would be sure to meet the approval of the most fastidious. This knocked the wind ont of the opposition and Mr. McKane was elected and d. onin the camp; and the value and permanency of the same. That such information is needed, there can be little doubt. In the London letter which appears in this morning’s Miner, an influential Journal speaks of Rossland as being in “the atate of Pennsylvania.”” The need ot such information was made manifest during the recent visit of a number of the members of the British Science as- sociation, who visited British C in: algo the shipments ot ore from it, estab- a ae rom the different mines central railway station for trane-abip- ment, and in that way the coat of tak- ing the ore from the mines to the cen- tral station over any other mcans of tation will be very greatly re- luced. Thus the mine owner in this camp, who has large lies of low grade ore will be enabled to market them at a profit which, but for the con- struction of the railroad, smelter and aerial tramways, they could not other- wise market. I believe the Canadian Pacific railway ize the whi they owe to Canada to use all the means at their command for its development, and that in an enlightened self interest, and Rorsland and who admitted that, before leaving England, they were un- aware of the existenve of such a camp as Rossland.
