The adult group committees who do so much to see that these youth groups flourish are also in need of- more interested parents to help lighten the load and to make the job easier. This problem is not just a local one. A reading of almost any of B.C.’s weekly newspapers will show that the same pro- blems exist all over this province. The + Ietters to the editor and news stories that have appeared in this newspaper over the past few months are much the same as the ones that have appeared in many of B.C.’s.weekly newspapers. This editorial on the subject is one much like two or “three others that have been written in , the last little while. Nay, can’t even walk through the stuff!” .. dren. They spend an hour with them at some hall and then spend as much as two hours a week at home working with boys or girls who are studying for their badges. As one local Cub leader commented: “Is it too much to ask a parent to spend one night a month (on a group committee) organizing this thing, when leaders’ give up three or four hours a week?” Present leaders, who are doing a fine job, are overloaded and are hard worked to keep up with the present enrolments. Parents are quite wililng to ‘let their chil- dren belong to these groups, but most are ROBSON REPORT ‘ Annual report ‘ot the Ist Rob- son Group Committee: During the past year the Cubs were active’ under the leadership of Gary Hyson who was assisted by Byng Giraud, Keith Lane, ‘Leslie Waldie and Norman Skene, The ‘| thanks of the Group Committee go to Mr. Hyson and his helpers for their very excellent work. Early in the year our records show an attendance of 12 to 13 cubs and has risen to over 20. It is gin- tifying to note this very healthy increase, The Scouta had a very active year under the direction of Scout- master’ Banigan. J. Fornelll helped as assistant for n time Busy Year. Mrs, J, Fornelli assumed the of- fice of treasurer for the balance of the year and the Committee are grateful to her for her work. Committées were formed for the first time and‘ the following chairmen deserve the thanks of the Group. Committee for. their hard work during the year: lead- ership, F. Giraud; camping and ac- tivities, Mr, Batchelor and Mr, An- derson; finance, R. Oborne. During based year some camping for the but unfortunately shift work forced him to give up this work, We were very sorry to lose his services, Both Scouts and Cubs took part in the District rally on Baden Po- well Sunday at the high school. About 200 telephone books were delivered ‘by the Oubs and Scouts in the Robson District ond this helps to provide some funds for Group Committee work. In June the annual outing of Cubs, Scouts and Fathers was held on Indian Flats and as usual it was 9 great success. Assistance was provided by the Cubs and Scouts for the Kinsmen book drive in ald of the Castlegar and Kinnaird Libraries, + Our reluctant to work on group ittee: There are a steady few who support Scouts, Cubs, Guides and Brownies throughout the District but they are not enough. One Castlegar man said that if it weren’t for Loyd Groutage, there would- n’t be any Cubs in Castlegar. One Cub- master, Jim McLuckie, has indicated that if more support isn’t forthcoming soon, this will be, his last year with the boys. Every ‘parent in the Castlegar Dist- rict should give serious thought to this problem. They should sit down, look at the available time they have free from other organizations’ or weight the advan- tages of the good they can do on a group ittee over bi i organization, and — if they see their way clear — they should join a group committee and get to work for our ‘hope of the future, our youth. c go to Scoutmaster Banigan for having two scouts, Ted Bolehelor and Les Waldie, receive the use of the Troop. Our finances were provided mainly from a very suc- cessful drive for bottles, ‘used bat~ terles, scrap .brass and cotton rags. The Group Committee hos agreed to conslder the formation of a Rover Crew. We are hopeful that this will provide assistance for the Scoutmaster in the future. , We are very proud to record that Scoutmaster Banigan comple- ted his Gilwell Course. Our con- gratulations to Mr, Banigan. In ‘September Scoutmaster Banigan attended a leadership training course at Camp Busk where he was one of the training team. Scout Jeff Banigan attended the same camp as a service scout. it was with-dismay. that we heard last December of Regional Resker's Queen Scout Badge. The boys went to Victoria as guests of the ‘British Columbia Scout Association and re- celved thelr ‘certificates from Lt- Gov. Ross at Government House. In early June a patrol of Rob- son Scouts attended an Internation- al Camporee at Spokane under the capable accident, but we were happy td see he is now able to continue his work in Beoutiig, _ Our thanks are due to our sponsoring body, the Robson Re- creation Society who. provide us with the very satisfactory facilities of the hall, of Banigan, assisted by Roy Lacko of hRINTE | na BUY A SILK SKIN: , Girdle or Pantie Comfort guaranteed or your money back.
