The veterans included several brave but out of shape souls (ie. Jim Morris and -Russ_Dil- labaugh) who hadn't strapped on cleats for eight years, how- ever, they gave a heroic. ac- count of themselves. The veterans held up very weil tw the Gonzaga altack afd ~ finally lost 7 to 0, Castlegar allowing one try and one penalty kick. Stand-outs in that game Dick Hamilton whose coverage across the field was excellent, Tom Seott who tackled anything in sight and John Orr and Lach Farrell who still have some fine moves left! With the second game underway, the Cossacks ap- peared to have the advantage and controlled the set scrims “and much of the loose play. However, two key-injuries took place and the junior Cossacks superiority was nullified. Gonzaga was able to score two converted tries and one unconverted try, the final score being 16 to 0. Stand-out for the second game was Lonnie Powell who really enjoys tack- ling and the whole scrim for doing so well against heavier odds, ‘Thanks go to Selkirk Col- lege for the use of their field and Dr. Hugh Crozall of Nelson for an excellent job refereeing. Purple hearts go to Own Morris and Lach Russel, both who sus- tained leg injuries and who will be encased in plaster for Several months. ‘The Cossacks next game is on Sunday in Nelson against the Trait Colonials in an at- tempt to promote rugby.
