ALK,: Well, here we are into 1984 and it doesn't seem so much different from 1983. You just have to remember to put a different number on your cheques. The old chaps have started their new competition and everything seems to be running smoothly. The format has been changed a little; we now curl three days a week with all games in the morning. The New Year's celebration at the Legion went over pretty well. The wife and I received a little parcel from an old friend just after the holiday. It was some cute little ornaments and they came from George Dyson who now resides in Langley. He wrote quite a newsy letter. Says he is curling with, not the seniors, but the senators. He has been in three 'spiels and has been in the money in all three. He is feeling well and taking in his share of good shows. He has visited B.C. Place a couple of times, and he says the bucks really flow into the beer concession. The hockey in the KIJHL has now resumed after the Christmas-New Year break and the Warriors will open what's left of the regular schedule tonight at home against Elk Valley. Then they travel to Nelson to battle the Leafs on Saturday. Two wins here would put them solidly in fourth spot in the West. All the footbafl bowl games are just about over now, only the NFL has to wind down to the Super Bowl. A lot of people I know would like to see Seattle get there this time around. After their heroics against Miami, they should. not be counted out but they have a stern test coming up on the weekend. Those L.A. Raiders are definitely for real. In the other game one would have to give the edge to Washington after they ran roughshod over the L.A. Rams last week. But the 49ers have to be taken seriously, too. Our daughter, Carol, her husband Bud and their three youngsters paid us a couple of visits over the holidays. They were up to visit Bud's folks, the Hartleys of Blueberry Creek and dropped in to see us and eat a holiday meal. They left Monday morning to head back to Surrey where Bud has his own business. It's always a great thing to see and enjoy our grandchildren, they add a whole new dimension to our lives. News of not quite as good a calibre comes from old friend Ken Stanton. Ken has just started curling with' 'dur. retirees and on a trip to the coast he was put under orders to drop any vigorous activity for a while. So his curling career has been put on hold for a bit. Another job at which he excelled will have to be dropped too; the scorekeepers job at Warrior games which.he has done for some time. We all wish you a speedy recovery, Kenny, and to see you back in the swim again. Till next time, then!
