New switches in place B.C. Tel has installed a new generation of computerized switching equipment in South Slocan and Thrums to meet growth and upgrading requirements in the area, the company says in a news release. Effective June 14, subscribers in these two exchanges began being ser- ved by the GTD-S digital electronic switch. The base unit itself can start at a few hundred lines and ex- pand easily to accommodate up to 100,000 lines, B.C. Telsays. ! Because the remote units use the computer power of the base unit, sub- scribers in more rural areas can have a modern telephone ‘system with features previously limited to more populated areas. Through the base unit, such cost-éfficient procedures as , However, Hedman points out that if Customers have purchased a touch calling set-and do not have a touch- calling line, then they may have trouble dialing. For telephone customers in South Slocan and Thrums, the conversion to billing, and administration are possible, the com- pany says.
