Project Literacy West Koote- Nay operates a volunteer literacy tutoring program in several com- munities in this area: Trail, Castlegar, Nelson, Nakusp and surroundings. The TV/VCR unit will be used throughout the region to train tutors, teach litera- cy skills to adults and to educate the public about literacy in B.C The Directors and other volun- teers at Project Literacy West Kootenay are very grateful for the generous donation. In B.C., close to one adult in every three has problems reading and writ- ing. Support from companies such as Matsushita, as well as from organizations, individuals and the media, is needed to deal effectively with this issue. Seniors consider RCMP building referendum Castlegar Senior Citizens Branch #46 held their monthly business meeting on Oct. 1 Sarah Jacobson opened the meeting and with Margaret Trus- sler at the piano. A member of the RCMP showed pictures of their cramped quarters and also passed along some pamphlets with diagrams of the new proposed building which interested the seniors.
