The Candy Stripers will be commencing their activities and Hospital Auxiliary mem- bers are continuing to provide regular care and service to the patients in the hospital with frequent rounds of the supply care. The gift shop in the hospital is available to patients as well as visitors where they may purchase gifts, flower arrangements, baby sweaters, magazines and candy. Mountain View Lodge will be holding a bazaar on Nov. 14 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., featuring Christmas crafts, baking, coffee and a raffle with several of our members plan- ning to be in attendance to help. A new VCR will be pur- chased for the Hospice Room of Mountain View Lodge with funds raised through the sales of merchandise at the Trea- sure Shop which continues to be very successful. The month-long bag sale was a great achievement with thanks and appreciation to the community. Anyone interested in help- ing out at the Treasure Shop may contact Nettie Stupnikoff at 365-6587. The Castlegar Senior Citizens Branch No. 46 held its monthly business meeting on Nov. 5th with 40 members present. Marita Ford was the door prize winner. All officers were elected by acclamation and the installation will take place at the next meeting Dec. 3. Under discussion was a ‘Drop In’ day. Where the seniors hall will be open from 10 a.m, to4 p.m., and again from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Tuesday beginning Nov. 17th, soup, pie and coffee will be available for all comers. Games played will be floor curling, carpet bowling, shuffleboard, pool, darts and cards. Drop in and see for yourself and join in the fun with your friends. The Senior Lottery Tickets are now out and instead of mailing yours out, you can help the seniors by turning them in to the branch. Lo- cal seniors will get a percentage and you save astamp. Parks and Recreation Association approved course will run two Wednesdays and two Satur- days at the College — Nov. 18 and 25, between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., and Nov. 21 and 28, be- tween 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. — located at 2001 Silverking Road. This course provides partic- ipants with an overview of the Fitness to Music (aerobics) in- dustry and a review of anato- my and exercise physiology applied to all aerobics class components — warm-up, car- dio, strength and endurance, stretching and relaxation. The course will also reach participants how to give ver- bal cuing for direction, moti- vation and safety techniques, . and exercise ideas for all aer- obics class components. The instructor course also covers who to program or specialized populations. BCRPA Level 3 trainer Lorene MacGregor, B.P.E., will be the course conductor. Participants wishing to take the course must have previously registered for a rec- ognized Fitness Knowledge Course, or its equivalent, as a prerequisite to fitness leader- ship certification only. Meanwhile, starting Nov. 13, Trail Parks and Recreation day TTC Weight Training In- structor Course, Level 1, with Gary Knox, B. Sc. (P.E.), BCROA Level 3 trainer. This course is designed to introduce strength training to participants and teach them how to design weight training program for themselves and others. Included in the course is a study of the principles of weight training and equip- ment; a review of the weight training industry; anatomy and exercise and safety tech- niques; nutrition and strength training and an introduction to circuit training, power lift- ing and body building. The course runs Nov. 13, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Nov. 14 and 15, between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the J.L. Crowe Secondary School Li- brary Lab. All TTC fitness leadership courses provide the partici- pant with the opportunity to practice their teaching skills in class. There is limited reg- istration for each course. The TTC is an education- based company that has been serving the fitness industry in leadership training courses, workshops and conferences since 1980 — registering over 12,000 participants across the province.
