Ensign for Salmo Air Cadets : Squadron 561 of Royal Canadian Air Cadets, re- cently gathered at the Salmo Legion Hall for the official ceremony of presentation of the Air Cadet Ensign. The presentation was made by Dave Hodge, C.D., four and South Slocan. Though ‘space was lim- ited for drill in the Legion Hall, the cadets put on a display of precision drill. Their aim is to be the best in B.C. Official inspection ‘was carried out by their retiring past presid of Salmo Branch 217 of the Royal Canadian Legion, to retiring Commanding Officer Captain Rick Illingworth, C.D., of Nelson. The ensign was pur- chased by the Salmo Legion as a gift to the Air Cadets with the hope that the good relations between the squad: ron and the Legion would continue. Squadron 561 has 26 cadets, of whom 19 are boys and seven are girls. Ten are from salmo and the re- mainder from Nelson, Bal- ding officer and the past president of Salmo Le- gion. Another official cer- emony was the turning over of the position of command- ing officer from Captain: Il- lingworth of Nelson to Cap- tain Margaret Paul of Salmo. In addressing the squad- ron, Dave Hodge offered his congratulations and praise for their good relationshi Day and Decoration Day parades, and other activities. Dave Hodge also pointed out in his address that many things are available to those in thé cadet movement. One local youth, Arden Paul, re- ceived his glider licence and wings and was also awarded an exchange visit with the U.S.A, Air Patrol which took him to Washington, D.C., and many other places in the Ken Hodge, another Sal- mo cadet received both his gliding licence and wings, and also his pilot licence and wings. Many other courses are with Salmo Legion, Members of the squadron have assisted with bingo, the annual poppy campaign, Remembrance tl the year and at summer camp including radio, photography, aero-engine mechanics, in- struments and music, along with exchange visits to dif- ferent countries. Besides addresses by present and past command- ing officers, and Dave Hodge, an address was given’ by Henry Stavast, president of Salmo Legion, on behalf of the Salmo Legion.
