When the ‘‘code of honor” is held down to you “mustn’t hurt,” the public cannot be expected to take a very deep interest in it. Murderer Woods, at Nelson, is mak- ing a hard fight fo- his life with but lit- tle prospects of success. There is one commendable thing about the courts of Canada, and that is when they deter- mine ainan is guilty their judgments are not defeated by technicalities. ————— The laws of the United States which have so characterieticaly favored the working classes, are gradually being made and coustrued to favor the rich. If the laboring people obey the injunc- tions attempting to be enforced against them by the court, the day of strikes is over and the controversy about wages ended. They must take what is offered. That will be a sad condition and will very soon reduce the wage worker to a com- mon serf. ot In view of the friendly relations which exist between the Canadian Pa- cific railway and Mr. Heinze it is not probable that the former will parallel the latter’s road, which is nearly com- pleted between Robson and Trail. The | Canadian Pacific railway could branch off at the mouth of: Murphy creek or near there and get an easier grade into Rossland, which might be done, but Mr. Heinze could surely make it to the interest of the Canadian Pacific railway to use his road for the balance of the way. It would be well for the governments of Canada and the United States to work in harmony for the opening up and developing the Yukon gold fields. Ip the first place this government should not by unreasonable burdens upon the people who are taking their lives in their hands in going to the Clondyke. then the United States in turn should not force any restriction regarding the passage through Alaskan territory. The people who go to that dark, frozen region of the north will have enough trouble and hardships without the en- forcement of unreasonable laws by either government. AFTER OTHER BONANZAS. - Joe Moris, One of the Discoverers of the Le Roi, Still Prospecting. Joe Moris, the veteran prospector, is in from a summer’s work in the moun- tains of East Kootenay, Mr. Moris and Joe Bourgeois were the discoverers and locators of the Le Roi, War Eagle, Cen- ter Star, Iron Mask, Virginia, Home- stake and Idaho claims in the Trail Creek district. They gave E. L. Top- ping the Le Roi in consideration of his paying the recording fees for _the entire Zroupyand later sold the War Eagle, Tron Mask and Virginia to the Clark- Finch syndicate for about $17,000. Mr. Moris has n prospecting for the past four months for a Spokane syn- dicate. DON’T KNOW WHERE THEY ARE AT. Judging from the reports of the speeches made at the public meeting held at Roseland regarding the export- on-ore question, the formers of public opinion in that city have no use for Nel- son. Everybody must be his own judye and take his own chances, While there is not work tor all who iaquire, most sober, indus- tifous persons who really wish to work have so far been able to obtain it. We would not advise any man to land here ‘‘broke” without friends, although many who have done so are doing well.
