Miller, owner of the sawmill seven miles below town on the . Red Mountain road, came up last evening. He reports the demand for lumber greater than he can meet. John R. Cook left this morning for his ranch near Bossburg, where he will remain until Friday morning, when he leaves for California to spend the winter. Gov. C. H. Mackintosh left for Revel- stoke on -last evening’s train. He ex- pects to return on Thuraday night. Mrs Dr. Campbell and Children arri- ved this morning after an absence of several weeks in the east. Manager Hastings Submits Annual Reports to the Stockholders. The annual report of manager Jobn B. Hastings of the War Eagle Coneolid- ated Mining & Development company which was submitted to the stockhold- er’s meeting in Toronto Monday is ao comprehensive resume of the operations of that company. It states that 100,000 tons of shipping ore are now in sight in the War Eagle and the value is estima- ted at $1,700,000. The value of ship- ments of the year have amounted to nearly $700,000. During the period between Oct. 1, 2857, and Oct. 1, 1808, 3,480 feet of tun- neling, at an average cost per foot of $21.15, bas been done; 451 feet of rais- ing at $29.78; 185 feot of sinking at $96.25, making a total of 4,116 feet. In driving these headings, 2,816 tons ofore was produced and shipped. Dabney ‘is at ‘presentithe agent, but a company is_be- ing organized to handle it here, and will be known as the Rossland Coal Company. The promoters are J. L, Parker, Joseph B. Dabney and Chas, Dundee. _ ‘The Galt coal is snid tobe a favorite | stove coal in Winnipeg, and is used largely used in Great Falls, Mont. It is algo uged on the Canadian Pacific -loco- motives. The company is mining 700 tons a day at’present. It will:probably be gold on the cars in Rossland at $6.76 per ton, and $7.75 de- livered.. It is stated positively that. the price will not exceed $7.75 per ton. One ton is said to equal over two cordsof the best tamarac wood. When. the broad gauge between Rossland and Trail.ia fin- ished, the. price will be reduced fifty cents a ton, for it will obviate the re- loading of the coal onto the narrow gauge care at Trail.
