International pairs will be featured in “Emotions”, the Castlegar Figure Skating Club’s 1980 ‘Carnival to be held March 22. As well as displaying the talents of local members, the J club will present guest skat- ‘ers — US pair Cara and Craig Gill and Canadian pair Kath- erina Matousek and Eric Thomsen. This will be an ex- ceptional experience for spec- tetors as pairs skaters of this calibre are seldom seen in this area. . Cara’ and Craig Gill of: the Spokane Figure Skating Club are a brother and sister team who have skated as a pair for five years and havé:' rapidly improved their na- tional standing. In January 1980 they placed first in the Pacific Northwest Junior Pairs and fifth in the United States National Junior Pairs. Cara, who has skated for * seven-and-a-half years, is 13 years old and in the eighth grade. Her brother Craig is a 17-year-old high school senior who has skated for five-and- a-half years. The pair is coached by Barbara Brown, a former member of the United ' States Olympic and World Team. Katherina Matousek and Eric Thomsen of the North } Shore Winter Club started © skating together on Feb. 19, 1979. In August, they were. selected to represent Canada at the Ennia Challenge Cup at the Hague, Holland where they placed ‘sixth. In January, 1980, after skating together for less than a year, they placed fifth in the Canadian National Senior Pairs. Katherina attends Alpha ._ Secondary School where she is in Grade 10.
