Air Lines Grand Forks Gazette The Castlegar Town Council does not like the new air service set-up announced last week by the Canadian Transport Com- mission. The new arrangements for servicing the area announced by the Board takes the franchise away from Canadian Pacific Air- ways and turns it over to B.C. B.C. Airlines plans to use 1 turbo-prop planes on the route which in- cludes Grand Forks for the first time. smaller planes will not be able to give ade- quate service to the public using the Castle- gar airfield, and also complains that the Town will only receive $3 fee for each land- ing instead of the $30 fee paid by the CPA Airline using the large planes. It would seem that the Castlegar Coun- cil is looking at the new set-up purely from the viewpoint of how much money they are joing to receive from planes rather than from the viewpoint of the ser- vice to be received by the flying public. It has been a laughing matter to the residents of Grand Forks for some years now to see how often the bus taking “flying” passengers from Castlegar to Penticton, stops here, be- cause the planes have not been able to land at Castlegar. With the new set-up it will enable the planes to land in Grand Forks very many more times than they are able to in Castlegar and thereby give the flying public a very much better service.
