AS I SEE IT WITH HARRY PEPPER Had a chat with newly-appointed coach of the local Junior "B" Warriors on Tuesday evening and it turned out to be quite informative. Lloyd McLellan aired his views on most every aspect of the local hockey scene, and one can tell by listening to him year with the emphasis on im that he knows something about provement by Grand Forks and which he speaks. Nelson and possibly a slight First of all he went over the weakening in the Trail line-up . list of prospective players The proposed exhibition whom he expects into camp ~ames with Cranbrook and Spowhen it opens on Monday or kane Juniors loom as a chalTuesday. lenge which could add a lot to First, he will have what he our hockey entertainment this considers, and I agree with winter . · him, four of the top-notch candidates for coal-tending chores that are to be found in this district. They are Tommy Castle, Jackie Wert, Robby Richardson, all local youngsters, and last but certainly not least talented, the Thrums youngster who did such an outstanding job for the Castlegar Apollos last year, Lorne Kinakin . Coming back for another year's action will be defencemen Bob Hook, Jimmy Cotton, Joe Caron and Doug Davis . To these we can add Ed Bradford of Castlegar, who played some for the Warriors last season after the Apollos folded, his former defence mate and Apollo captain, John Reith, Jay Nastasi who also saw some service with the 1970-71 Warriors and local midget star, Lyle "Tinker" Oliver. Up front two tried and tested centremen will again don the Warrior colors, Jimmy Stuart and Mike Evans will be back at centre, while the status of John Stanton and Doug Jones, both of whom have offers from Kelowna, is to say the least, rather uncertain . Should they return to Rossland, Lloyd' s centre ice worries would be over. 3 Returnees to the wing spots ·. will be Rick Rosse, Ken Bertoia, Tom Stanton and Ernie Jacobsen. Mike McCormack and Eddie Rosse will also get a good shot at a wing spot and Gary Stanton could also find a spot at centre or on the wing . Two more former Castlegar Minor Leaguers fill out the present prospects and are Bill Henne and a lad named Savinkoff, they tell me he is a brother of Bill, of ,the refereeing staff, but about 2 sizes bigger. Lloyd tells me he will welcome any new prospects and each one will get that same long loQk, while he hast not been approached by any Trail youngsters yet, he feels that this is a distinct possibility and will certainly welcome any who wish to try out. Hockey is a game which increases the pace of a youngster 's physical approach to adulthood and Lloyd feels that if these kids can gauge their mental approach in the same manner, these youngsters could turn out to be a pretty good hockey team . But, the whole team will have to forget to be upset by things which come up, whet~er it be from the fans ; the city fathers, rink management or even the executive. Their main job is to play hockey and that' s a big enough one without any added worries. Lloyd thinks the league could be a little better balanced this t..
