The people of the United States and Canada will always bear each other good will and brotherly love, regardlesa of the selfish conduct of politicians. —— If the Le Roi people are paying less freight than before Mr. Heinze built his road from Roseland to Trail he is getting the big end of it and also getting $1.25 more for hauling 1t to Trail than the Red Mountain road is to get for hauling, it to Northport, twice the distance. ed What has become of the kickers? Isn’t it about time they were calling another meeting and issuing a mani- festo? The people were so long tired of their senseless harrangue and they themeelves must have become tired of it too. It is rightand proper for citizens and taxpayers to look after the conduct of city officials, but groundless fault- finding alwavs comes to naught. — Let the howlers for an export duty on ore offer the mine owners some re- lief in the way of cheap freight and treatment rates before an additional burden is laid upon mining. An export duty on $80 ore means $4.50 per ton, which taken together with the ex- pense of mining, shipping and treating means to shut down every mine in the camp, and what then would become of Rossland? a Should a 15 per cent ad valorem ex- port duty on ore be imposed by the Canadian government at this time, in simple, ungarnished English, it would ruin Rossland. Not for all time, of course, for our mines are all right, and conditions would change, so they could be worked, but not now. What is it, or would it be, to most of the business men of this place, what fame or propor- tions Rossland should attain, should they go broke in the meantime. —K—KXKXK—X—s~—_ D. C.
