CASTLEGAR NEWS, Thursday, March 11, 1976, " Sentor Citizens Once Again Win Heart Foundation Trophy Guests at the regular meeting of the Sentor Citizens’ Association last Thursday af- ternoon included Mrs. N, Mc- Nabb, area representative for the B.C. Heart Foundation and Recreation director Pat Metge. Mr. Metge presented the mem- bers with the Fitness ‘Trophy which the senior citizens have Ferry Traffic Shows Upward Trend in Usage An upward trend was indicated in all types of traffic using the Castlegar Ferry during the month of February month last year. The recent earthquakes in ~ Quatemala has emphasized the need for assistance. Here are some excerpts of a letter from Mr. John Hibbitt, the director of the Choqui agricultural station, which was sent to CUSO in Ottawa a few days after ‘the great tragedy: “The great tragedy of February 4, which struck this poor nation has taken a tremen- dous toll: the results so far, of the 30-second earthquake are more than 30,000 dead, 75,000 injured, 40,000 orphaned and more than 1,000,000 homeless, “I go down on my knees in requesting this support in the most rapid way possible. If CUSO is not capable at this time of supplying these re- quests, I ask you and CUSO members and friends of CUSO. to use all resources open to you in helping us to obtain these funds and equipment, * We, with our experience of having worked in the area and having seen over the last 10 days the devastation here, feel that we are qualified to make this direct solicitation.
