The police court was crowded this morning with keepers and inmates of houses of ill fame from Lincoln street, and its adjoining alleys. The following women were fined $30 each for keeping resorte: Sisl Scott, Alice Adams, Catherine Betts, Alice Daudrep, Lillie Woots, Nellie White, Mand Wilson, Ella Bisck, Nellie Eng- ligh, Nellie O’Neill, Della Howard, May Johnson, Mabel Montague, Maud wi liams, Vida Vernon, Sadie Maudie, Josie Maudie and Mamie Maadie, the last three being Japs. Then came six as inmates, viz: Etta Sharp, Alice Gordan, Ray Hardin, Flor- ence Harper, Inez Blanche and Laura Conray. These were fined $20 each. Nellie White and Nellie English were each fined $20 additional for fighting, pulling hair and disorderly conduct in the mreet. Cnicaco, March 15.—Peculiar feas tures in regard to- the superstition con- nected with the number thirteen were involved in the death of James Powers, a window washer, yesterday, happening as it did on the 13th of the month. He was employed on July 13, 1898, to take the place of John Miller, a window washer, who met his death on that dey, falling from the same window from which Powers fell. The window is the thirteenth from the ground. The man was 26 years old, twice thirteen.
