Page 6B Reminiscing about Castlegar and its residents I aprived in Castlegar on a hot, humid day in late June. The City was bustling, seemingly crackling with energy, Our small motel room, although air conditioned, seemed stifling The view ftom our window was of a seared, sun-baked rocky hillside. We mistakenly thought we were We turned off the air condition downtown ing, but there being no cross ventilation, so we could not breathe. The mattress on our bed was so soft, we slept slung together in the middle, awaken ing unrested and scratchy When we arrived in a new area, it is my duty to find accommodations so that we could quickly make a home base of quiet, peaceful content ment The real estate agents were not optimistic. There were no houses for rent, or townhouses, or con dominiums, nor apartments There was, in fact, nothing available to rent, at any price In a dusty shopping mall, I parked next to-a brightly pol ished pick up truck, with chrome strips, chrome pipes, lights, and more chrome. I-have also been privileged to work with and among some very fine and dedicated volunteers that represent a cross-section of the communities that make up this fine and very diverse region I have enjoyed researching and discussing many aspects of the history of th逑area, in an attempt to better understand the region and its citizens. Castlegar needed a heart, and now it has, at last, a very good beginning Still missing are act centres in the downtown a4 along the river. The Columbia River offers endless potential beyond that of parkland Around the world, cities that are located on water take advantage of that to bring people near, overlook ing and to the water. More accommodation, interest ing shops, bistros and restaurants on the river would be a welcome addition. So we can be assured that we are pointing people to the true source of abundant and Paul reminds his audience that Christ did not grasp at His supremacy, but He gave us a matchless example of true humility and true servanthood. Jesus very plainly told his followers in Matthew 23:11-12 “The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted”. Just think! If all Christians lived by this creedo, how much more abundant would be the physical and spiritual life of every human being! EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO CHRIST ~ Since Christ is the supreme author of life, and is aware of the responses in life of each person, it stands to reason He alone is in the position to judge each individual according to the light and opportunity each one has had. So Paul declares...every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus, Christ is Lord...to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11) If we honestly look at what Christ has to offer us, would we not all be wise to follow the example of those wise men of old, as they bowed their knees and their hearts before The One they recognized as the Lord of Life in its fullest dimensions?
