It is a biting satire on the world of television. Fred, played by Fellini regular Marcello Mastroianni, and Ginger, portrayed by the maestro’s wife of 41 years, Giulietta Masina, are forced to practise their act in the steaming television washrooms, stumble over a doddering admiral and a Mafia don who holds the Italian record for kidnappings. They finally flub their act because of a blackout. “Don't get the idea I am against TV,” Fellini said. “That would be ridiculous. I am not a movie man turned bitter. I don't deprecate TV competition against films. “This satire will put the spotlight on talk shows — on this television Niagara, this deluge of images which annul each other and have taken away some of the deduction and authoritative character of cinema.” HONORED FOR WORK Fellini recently took time out from filming on Stage Five of the enormous Cinecitta studios to journey to New York where he was honored for his role in the creation of neo-realism moviemaking by the Film Society of Lincoln Centre. He had not visited New York since his City of Women was shown five years ago. He did not even see Nine, the successful Broadway musical based on his 1963 movie, 8'/:,.a self-portrait about a film director's fantasies as he totters on the brink of a nervous breakdown. Many other changes are coming to the crime-riddled precinct of the NBC tele vision series, which has won 25 Emmys in five years but slipped to No. 27 in the U.S. network ratings in 1984-85. At least these characters will be in every episode: Furillo (Daniel Travanti), Mick Belker (Bruce Weitz) and the cop team of Bobby Hill (Michael Warren) and Andy Renko (Charles Haid). The series’ new co-execu tive producer, David Milch, would not elaborate on the other regulars in an inter. view this week with The Associated Press. Some other changes start ing in September: — Dennis Franz will play a new character, an “amoral phenomenon” who will re. place Rene Enriquez’s Lieut. Ray Calletano. Remains of sixth person found near hideaway WEST POINT, CALIF. (AP) — The decomposing rem: of a sixth person have been found near a survivalist’s hideaway that has already yielded 45 pounds of charred human bones and clues to the fate of 22 missing people. Meanwhile, the San Francisco Chronicle reported today that three people missing from an apartment building in that city’s Haight-Ashbury section may be among the victims. It identified them as Maurice Wock, 38; Cheryl Okaro, 26; and Randy Jacobson, 35. The Chronicle said Leonard Lake was carrying Jacobson's bank card when he was arrested. Lake, 39, killed himself while in custody on June 6. He swallowed a cyanide capsule. The sixth body was uncovered Tuesday by searchers at Lake's cabin 160 kilometres east of San Francisco. Authorities say 22 missing people may be linked to Lake and his friend, Charles Ng, 24, for whom a worldwide manhunt is under way. He was believed to have travelled to Toronto. Calaveras County Coroner Terry Parker said the latest body could have been buried for up to a year and that lime “keeps the body intact.” More bones, stained clothes and a license plate were picked Tuesday from a pile of rubbish on the property where authorities already have collected the remains of five victims and 45 pounds of charred human bone More than 700 pieces of evidence have been removed from the property where investigators believe Lake and Ng took some of the missing people. Among the evidence were photographs of 21 women, some nude or i a player owned by one of the missing families; a computer and floppy discs. Some of the women in the photographs are being interviewed, said Chuck Jones of the attorney general's bureau of investigations. Officials, i delayed i! an alleged sexual torture cell where they believe Lake planned to survive a nuclear attack with food, weapons and female sex slaves. Items belonging to some of the missing people were sold at yard sales by Lake, Stenquist said. About 15 young workers from the California Conservation Corps picked through the rubbish dump in 100-degree heat Tuesday, finding a half-dozen large bones that would be analyzed to determine if they are human, said Mark Olenslager, a state Department of Justice investigator. Until all evidence from the three-acre site is studied, authorities say it is difficult to determine how many vietims there may be. “Conceivably, we could be talking about 40 missing people, but we don’t believe that the figure is that high,” said Sgt. Ron McFall of the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department. fragments. 1410 Bay Ave., Trail CALGARY STAMPEDE July 3, Highlander Hotel * Deluxe coach tran$portation Hotel accommodations «Tickets for grandstand seating, Calgary Stampede Parade Tickets to the exciting daytime and evening Rodeo events with the Chuckwagon Races and Grandstand Show \dmission to Heritage Park * Shopping * Baggage handling «Hotel taxes $10 OFF FOR SENIORS FOR INFORMATION CALL at the Yukon! 18 DAY Yukon- Alaska Adventure Tour AUGUST 8TH DEPARTURE SOME FEATURES OF THIS TOUR * Round trip por by luxury equipped motorcoach 16 or 17 nights hotel/motel accommodation *Scenic drive up the full length of Alaska highway *See the Signpost Forest at Watson Lake *City tour of Dawson City and Bonanza Creek Scenic drive over the Top of the World Highway *City tour of Fairbanks *Saimon bake at Alaskaland *See Mt. TRAVEL Chairman of company killed TOKYO (AP) — Two sword-wielding men broke into the home of the chair man of a company being in- vestigated for the fraudulent sale of gold bars and hacked their victim to death Tuesday as television cameras re- corded the attack. The television film showed the two killers smashing a window of a house in down town Osaka, entering the building and then emerging a few minutes later, spattered with blood and shouting, “We are the criminals!” Suspects were arrested at the scene by police. Television crews had been stationed in front of the home of Kazuo Nagano, the 32 year-old chairman of Toyota Shoji Co. Ltd., because it was expected that police would arrive to arrest him on suspi- cion of violating the Foreign Exchange Control Law. Stories about the firm's high-pressure sales tactics aimed at elderly people have been carried regularly by newspapers during the last week. Police in Osaka, 375 kil ometres southwest of Tokyo, said the killers brushed past about 40 journalists. Capt. John Testrake also tried to reassure his family by saying that God would see him through the incident. ABC said three of its journalists in Beirut had been permitted to interview Test- rake, whose plane was seized by Shiite Moslen gunmen after taking off from Athens for Rome last Friday. About 40 American hostages are sill being held in Beirut; one was killed earlier. The journalists were not permitted on board the Boe- ing 727, ABC said, but were allowed to speak to Testrake from the ground as he leaned out of the cockpit. “T'd like for my wife, my family and all of my friends in Missouri to know that the Good Lord has taken very good care of us so far,” Testrake was quoted as saying. “And He has seen us through some very trying times and will see us through to the end.” The pilot said he did not know where his remaining passengers had been taken. “We've been told they've been taken to a safe place,” Testrake was quoted as saying. “They are comfort able and well taken care of.” Julie Flint, one of the journalists, said: “The pilot was looking extremely tired, but smiling a little out the window.” ABC plane's first officer, Maresca, as saying: “I'm fine and the message to my family is they can worry a little, but not too much.” also quoted the Philip Ugandans being tortured NEW YORK (REUTER) — The end of Idi Amin's brutal Amnesty International said its report could not de- termine the number of people held, tortured or killed since 1980, following the return to power of President Milton Obote.
