REQUEST FOR NOMINATIONS REGIONAL SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION COUNCIL The Science Council of British Columbia is forming a Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Council in the region served by Selkirk College. The mandate of the council will be to: * Improve the region's ACCESS to related programs, services and agencies. * Increase the APPLICATION of technology in regional firms and institutions. * Promote the AWARENESS of science and technology issues and opportunities. * Provide ADVICE on related regional issues to appropriate agencies. A nomination committee in the region is preparing a list of public and private sector candidates to recommend to the Science Council of British Columbia for appointment to the 16 member regional council. Candidates will be recommended on the basis of: * Geographic representation. * Industry and Business Sector representation. * Appreciation of opportunities in science and technology. * Demonstrated community leadership. Carl Huff and Heather Penman Couple wed in Chilliwack Heather Penman, daughter of Jim and Rae Penman of Castlegar, and Carl Huff, son of Susan and Daryl Huff, exchanged vows April 8 in Cooke's Presbyterian Church in Chilliwack, where the couple is now residing. Maid of honor was Rachel Bates and bridesmaid was the groom's sister, Shelley Huff. Best man was Matthew Huff, the groom's brother. A special guest was the bride's grandmother who flew from Scotland to attend the wedding. The quality-of drinking water in some Kootenay communities was the subject of a recent Knowledge Network special. The special, which was aired eaerlier this month, featured Mike Harnadeck, chief environ- mental health officer for the West Kootenays. ‘ “The outcome is people get sick,” Harnadek told the Knowl- edge Network. “They visit their doctor. That uses up health care dollars. They end up going to hospital. That uses up more health care dollars.” A dog was splashing through a rural water supply when the Knowledge Network crew came to visit.
