logo on seven-by-six-metre sheets of
vinyl to be erected at various sites.

‘I've always liked Batman, anyway,
so when (the job) was brought to me, 1
said, yeah, OK,”’ Plant said in an in-
terview

“OF course; after you've done five
of them, you don’t want to see another

Although the deal has been Plant's
most lucrative assignment she won't
say exactly how much she made — the
artist has landed more challenging jobs
that often require her to perform
almost superhuman feats of her own.

“Ultimately if any film like this is
going to work it’s because of Gene and
Anne. The reason why I’m so hopeful
about the film ... is because when you
have two actors of that ability, that’s
what audiences focus on.””

Minister of State for Kootenay Development Region
Howard Dirks invites proposals from individuals
interested in becoming the business development
coordinator for the Kootenay Region

Based in the Region, the successful incumbent will
have extensive knowledge of the region's business
community, excellent communication skills and strong
planning abilities

The coordinator will be engaged for an initial period of
six months with a possibility of extension and assigned
to the principal task of working with the suppliers of
business development services in each community to
develop a strategy for improvement of services. The
second phase will involve implementing the strategic
plan

The business development initiative is a pilot project
under the Minister of State and Ministry of Regional
Development. The focus of the project is to coordinate
and enhance the quality and level of business
development services currently being provided by
existing firms and agencies already in the community

Creston Valley children
flock to wildlife centre

With the look of wonder and ex-
citement in their eyes, 28 children from
throughout the Creston Valley par-
ticipated in Greenwing’s Day at the
Creston Valley Wildlife Centre.

Boarding the Creston Valley
Wildlife Management Area airboat for
a short ride, these Greenwinger’s lear-
ned how area manager Brian
Stushnoff uses the airboat in his
wildlife management practices to
research and identify nesting sites of
the waterfowl who use the
management area to rear and raise
their young. Greenwing’s Day was the
finale to a week long celebration
marking 1989 Environment Week in
the Creston Valley.

Environment Week activities, spon-
sored by the Public Advisory Commit-
tee to the CVWMA included talks by
Steve Wilson, a Simon Fraser Univer-
sity master of science research student

management area, to Grade 6 and 7
students, a new display at the Wildlife
Centre dealing with wood ducks, their
history and nesting habits, naturalist-
led walks and canoe trips, films and
slide programs at the Wildlife Centre
throughout the week, and Green-

the PAC to the CVWMA, Green
wing's Day was a fun-filled and
educational day for children between 7
and 17 years, who spent Saturday June
10 at the Creston Valley Wildlife Cen-
tre learning about their environment,
the role they play in improving and
maintaining the environment and how
they can take an active role in under-
standing the world they live in, a CV-
WMA news release says.

Lardeau better TV

The residents of Lardeau Valley will
have improved communications ser
vices thanks to a $76,000 grant
provided to the Lardeau Community
Club, Regional Development Minister
Elwood Veitch and Nelson-Creston
MLA Howard Dirks have annouced

“The grant, provided under the
Program for “Educational and Enter-
tainment ‘Television —_ Services
(PEETS), will provide the Lardeau
Community Club with a satellite
receiving dish, receiver terminal, UHE
television transmitter and a power
line,”” Veitch said in a news release.

Dirks noted that as a result of this ex
tensive project, “Knowledge Network
programming, which is in high
demand, will be available to 800 Lar-
deau Valley residents located north of
Kaslo in the communities of Howser,
Meadow Creek, Cooper Creek,
Argenta, Lardeau and Johnsons Lan
ding.’

program, administered by the Ministry
of Regional Development, is designed
to aid in the development and exten
sion of communications systems in
British Columbia and is funded by the
Provincial Lottery Fund
